But, Anthony, Norway is supposed to have a ski season. Oklahoma is not.
Colorado's been delightfully warm, up until Tuesday. I think it was 60 F here on Monday (about 16 C). And like Norway, we're supposed to have a ski season too. Since Tuesday it's been colder than a witch's toe.

Shot some more pictures today and uploaded a few to my flickr account. Mostly it was of the birds gathering around our feeder for them. |

And it's back to warm in Colorado Springs today. In fact it was so warm the snow on the north side of the house (in the shade) all melted. But then we only had a couple of inches of snow this week.
Below zero (or -18 C) on Tuesday and Wednesday. And now 50 F (or 10 C) today. Unusual winter.

1. Clean away that lump of snow! You risk breaking the wiper blades with it in place. It also takes away visibility. It probably also blocks the windowwasher nozzles. The way your windshield looks at the end... Would have earned you 6months as a pedestrian if the cops had stopped you here in Norway. Probably a nice fine, too...
2. That ain't no blizzard! It's just a light drizzle, mostly rain coming down. You can even see the road ahead. In my first REAL blizzard, the visibility was down to 20meters at times.
3. Either get a set of winter tires, or if they're not legal/sold in your area, get a set of 'Autosocks' for these kinds of days. (I use studded winter tires, and have chains ready in the trunk.)
Even Jaguar sell Autosocks as part of their 'winter package' now.
(They had them especially made this winter as the manufaturer didn't have 22" models available... )
4. If you get hold of Autosocks or chains, TRY THEM! The Autosock especially is supposed to be 'dead easy' and quick to put on, but without really KNOWING, most people will hesitate to put them on when they need them. And that means 'just another statistic'...
Note that in many countries it is specifically FORBIDDEN to drive with a vehicle unsuited for the conditions. (This is obviously not the rule in much of America, judging by the rash of videos of traffic chaos that appears every year... ) _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

Except the camera sits 2" up off of the dash where as my head was up by the roof. There was no obstruction to MY vision.
Last I checked, there's no laws about obstructing the vision of a dash-cam.

Before I left the parking lot, there were times I couldn't see the cars parked 15' in front of me. I made my break between waves.

It doesn't snow that heavily here. The big problem was the fact that there was almost 8" of snow on the ground with little/no plowing going on in the area I was in despite it being an "emergency route."
Studded tires/chains aren't allowed in the KC area. Even emergency vehicles don't use them.

In Johnson County (where I live) I think you're forbidden to drive if your competent. The people around here are total idiots on the road. That's one of the reasons I've been working on getting my dash-cam setup going. At least once a week I see some jackass fly through a red light, run a stop sign, cross 4 lanes of traffic, etc.
Fortunately, video evidence is good enough to site them. Just have to catch it on tape.

Ooh Ooh Ooh. I have input.
Ok Lets see.
@Vallus: That Bike looks awesome. Does it come with the snow? Lol, glad to hear your window made it out safely.
@Hikaru: Dash Cam. Genius Idea. I want to set one up, but haven't the faintest idea how I should go about doing that (although considering my current condition it shall have to wait).
Also, competency makes it illegal to drive anywhere in the United States.
With the exception of Texas, where I hear they give licenses to everyone. Never been, but my buddy on base down there says that's how it goes. Lol.
Also, why would it be illegal ANYWHERE to have a vehicle properly outfitted for transportation in inclement weather? 0.o what sense does that make . . . no snow chains on emergency vehicles . . . _________________ Ciara 12/26/08

A dash-cam is easy. Use ANY cam you happen to have, fasten it to the dash, point it forward and start recording.
There are cheap cameras made for the purpose, too.
And other 'specialist cameras can be used.
(Helmet cams are nice. And if you're into RC-planes, the FlyCam One is nice)
The Autosock is approved in most states in the USA with and snowfall at all. (No studs or anything. They're 'just' fabric, so they won't damage the road surface)
Hikaru, that lump of snow may not be in your vision, but it is definitely obstructing the wipers. That's NOT good.
Incidentally, the courts here specifies that 'unobstructed vision' means 'the area covered by the wipers'.
(An area slightly less than that usually won't get you into trouble, unless you piss the police off royally, and they need an excuse to ruin your day.)
Non-working wipers, though, is a sign that you need to stop before they stop you. _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"
