ok so on Thursday just before i got to work at about 3:00pm mountain standard time a co-worker of mine died at work.

now working in the steel industry is one of the most dangerous jobs you can have statistically says most insurance companies.

but this is where my 'random' comes in, his name was Sammy, 62 in pretty good heath, 2 years away from retirement. he went out to his car to take a his lunch time nap but he never woke up. now thats what i call random.

R.I.P. my friend.

Man knows not his time.

Where I used to work, the man who ran the tool crib was just sitting at his station, chatting with a couple of coworkers, and dropped dead. Aortic aneurysm. He was 40 and in otherwise excellent health.

At least he passed away in his sleep, without any kind of suffering or pain.

Almost 7 years ago my Dad was planning suicide, got everything set up to kill himself then before he could follow through he died of a condition that no one (not even Daddy) knew he had, most had never even heard of and could be kept at bay by simply eating a cup of yogurt a day.
Taken just before he could follow through on suicide. Sometimes random can be good. Had he succeeded at suicide I would have followed suit within a couple months (the day we found out he died two good friends called me up, effectivly doing a suicide watch on me cuz Daddy and I were so close).

"Not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car?"

Sorry, I couldn't resist. It's an old joke and although maybe in bad taste, is somewhat apropos.

What happened to your friend did indeed suck, but from the sounds of it, he had a good life, which is more than many people on this planet can say. Rejoice in his life and don't morn his death, for he has left his mark on the world if not only with you. Let his memory bring joy and even amusement for we are luminous beings. Our existence is transient as should be our passing. Let not the light of the passage bring darkness, only a lingering glow of warmth for those who remain.

Cheers
