.: Stereotypes and Prejeduces :.
February 7, 2004

I am so hypocritical, but this is a point that I feel I have to make. Sit back, relax, and enjoy my rambling. If you stick around 'till the end, I might give you candy. Might.

There are stereotypes. Lots of them. Every person on this planet falls under some sort of stereotype, whether they like it or not. I fall under the punky, skater type person who is antisocial and excells in not giving a shit. My friends also fall under that category. No, I don't resemble Avril Lavigne in any way, shape, or form, as I believe her to be a transexual who can't sing and gives punk a bad name. Which brings me to my first actual point, and forgive me for skipping around.

There are people in this world who decide to ruin a perfectly good stereotype by claiming that they are also, say, "punk"(for example) when they are not. They become popular, and soon, the standard for "punk" is now something that it shouldn't be and shouldn't EVER be. Suddenly, the original "punk" people are no longer "punk". They become stereotyped as anything BUT "punk". All because of this one little asshole who decides to ruin it for everyone else. Avril Lavigne is one of those people, as is Good Charlotte. Sell outs, and abusing the "punk" name. They were better when they were UNDERGROUND.

But back to the main topic.... if there is one. Stereotyping can be a good thing. Sometimes. Other times, it's a bad thing. Like... job interviews, for instance. To get a job at Hot Topic, I've heard that you must have two piercings and one tattoo, at least. You can do whatever the hell you want with your hair, and wear clothes that you can't get away with anywhere else. But at any other place, you can't have hair that's dyed an unnatural color or certain tattoos or piercings. They just won't hire you, or they'll fire you if you do get them. Not fair? That's a duh.

Stereotyping is still a huge problem in schools, too. I know, you hear this kinda shit all the time, but it IS true. People like me, who have black/dyed hair and wear black/baggy clothes and lots of jewelery/chains are shunned in school by all the people who wear the colorful skin-tight shirts and pants that make your crotch itch by just looking at them. They don't like us, therefore we don't like them. They consider us an impurity in the school, just because we want to be different. But, by being different, we are doing the same things as other people. No one is original, though, but the people who shun the "goths" are just the same stupid conformists who shop at Abercrombie and don't think about other people. Granted, we are just like them, but it's us who are different because we call this hypocracy to everyone's attention.

There will never be a world free of stereotypes, and maybe it's a good thing. I just wish people would learn to move past these petty differences and try to accept the fact that we live here to, and there's not a fucking thing they can do about it. Stop complaining about us and we'll stop complaining about you.

Okay, this has turned into a preppy rant. Maybe I should attempt to get back on topic.

.... that's all I can really think of.

.... Oh yeah. Don't discriminate against DDR!

.... I give up. Rant over.
