What's the power requirements listed on them?

What's the rating on the PSU used with the USB-dapter?

OK, stumped. May with more info.

Would you mind giving some details on the converter so I can get some idea how this is hooked up?

As to the drive: how many partitions, what size?
As to the content: did you use a special partitioning program, or did you partition it before installing or from the setup program?
Possibly your motherboard can boot from USB drives, did you try that ever?

If not solvable for me, this is an interesting problem but feel free to use less friendly terms according to your situation.

Mike, since it allows hot-swapping (probably not for IDE though) I would ask you to try a tool like:

http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Programming/Misc__Programming_Tools/Advanced_USB_Port_Monitor_Download.html

this might show where the data is going and the difference between OK and NOK.[/url]

From what I hear, the 'File' menu is back in the 2010 version...

That said, my office is still using the 2003 version, and won't be upgrading until after Xmas, when we're also switching from WinXP to Win7.
(Both Win7 and Office 2010 at the same time... And the users will be responsible for both saving important files and starting the upgrade themselves. Thank the Gods that I'm not in frontline Phone support now... )

Newbie user here.
From: office XP (so the one before 2003) to 2010.
We've used OO for a year.

I don't use Office2010 much but for editing text. I've so far not been all too unhappy. I don't know too much about 2007.
Like 2007, people lose references. I did too. I can list a number of (Dutch, of course) expletives my wife uses when she's using the new contraption.
In all fairness, those (angry) comments are mostly geared to excel and powerpoint. Once you have gotten to know those programs in the 2003 version you really will be looking for things often. The Microsoft idea that users want simple things don't seem to apply to me (the 1st thing I did with the previous office was select 'always show full menus')
The ribbon thing in 2010 can be adjusted like the 'ribbons' in 2003 and below, and I can hardly believe that this was not possible in 2007.

Searching in 2010 is quite an improvement, a document layout (if one uses styles) is clearly better supported (the structure of the document shows). Search a word and all occurances show up both in the doc and with context in the side-panel.
In general, the layout of the screen can be said to match with wide-screen displays.
I find the thesaurus a little bit less nice compared to XP (used a window).
My macro's still work, that's OK with me.
All shortcut keys work as expected.
The context menu is a huge improvement, paste-special (e.g. text only) is much better than before.
Speed, so far, seems fine.

For excel: this now has a concept of 'tables' (what moron came up with that?) My wife ended up not being able to simply extend a table but inserting a column and figuring that out was not fun. There was a good explanation in the end but programs that make options 'grey' without telling you why show be packaged, banned, and put in a rocket to the sun.

Powerpoint is a disaster because the idea of 'helping' with the action you're doing hardly ever matches. What people were used to determined these sets of defaults is beyond me.

File menu: I recently saw a copy of 2007 active and I suddenly agree that the convert 'file' button quick access menu is a brain-fart of epic proportions. I'm glad I never learned that one. In 2010 M$ has introduced a sort of 'back stage window' (their lingo, not mine). This results for example in printing to require additional clicks... yay.

We used to have an overloaded 'tools/options' menu. They've hacked it in pieces and the whole security thing is now totally incomprehensible to me but it's not interfering at least.

My take: we'll get this nice thing in -say- 6months (together with some sort of win7 x64) and I think I'll adapt within a few weeks. After that I will use new functions quickly and will know where to find everything. If you're to work with 2010 and 2003 mixed I think severe brain damage may occur including loss of sanity.

Word2010 has (I think) a few improvements in the editing that I certainly like. Even the grammar and spelling checks have clearly been improved.

I'm sorry I can't help with excel and ppt, but from what I've seen I think companies will need to spend time=money on getting everyone settled in. Furthermore, I haven't spend a millisecond on outlook (and won't either until forced at gunpoint or job security).
I hate Outlook. I hope someone makes a virus to eradicate that contraption.

My particular install of office 2010 is called 'enterprise' and would cost some 700 euro's but since my wife is a teacher she had to pay 15 euro. This version comes with applications like 'groove', 'sharepoint' and even publisher (in case you want to experience really bad and limited DTP).

If you don't need to switch, don't I suppose. M$ always talks about support but I don't recall them every 'fixing' something on office XP other than their infamous buffer underruns.
Still: if you want a taste, try the 'free' version because that just happens to have the new editing interface.

I do hope this helps!

At the office it's planned to give users training before the switchover, but...
I know from experience that some will 'suddenly find that they have a meeting on those days' and never show up.
(Calling in the day before to reschedule, or even to let someone else use their spot? Nahh... Never mind that we'll be using outside help for part of the courses, meaning they'll be wasting taxpayer's money... )
And yes, it's the same people who can never figure out how to use the programs themselves.
(One always used the File/Open dialog in Word instead of the Explorer... )

anyway, we're getting the Enterprise+ package.
(More bells and whistles. Probably other annoying sounds, too)
If I wanted, I could get the E+ package for $20 right now, as the office got the 'HUP' deal from M$.
(Home Use Program. your office needs to be a REALLY BIG customer, though... )
Personally, I'll be waiting for the Office 2011 package showing up on that site. (2008 and 2011 is for Mac. Of course, buying a Mac version automatically disqualifies me from also buying a Windows version. As if someone can't own more han one computer... )

If I'd have to choose, for that training, I'd be suddenly unavailable... um. Sorry there.

As to big to be using HUP:how big is big? 5000 workplaces is big? We're hardly the size of GM, Boeing or intel.

Glad you remind me of this. If my comments spurred anyone to try a 'free' preview version I apologize for the mess because it turns out that uninstalling office2010 while (for instance) 2007 was installed doesn't quite work as expected. Similar feeling as with Google Chrome: some parts were overwritten and are nicely removed leaving the old application crippled!
Be this intentional or just crappy I don't know. (lemme see, how many people worked on this thing again? right, bad management or willfully overlooked... I'm in a quandary.)
If you dare use your M$-Live Id you supposedly can try the web-version 'free of harm'. I've tried for the last hour to gain access to this service using an XP computer but other than getting a 'skydrive' I'm stuck. I'm clearly dense when it comes to using this kind of web-apps for I can't make it work.

As to suddenly disappearing features: instead of repairing the office imaging application and the picture editor (both could not access images over a few Mb) they just removed them.

Guys, I didn't want to post this on The Shoulder section, as it doesn't directly affect me, but I'd like to ask your opinion:

A certain brony (MLP FIM Fan, but you probably knew already) who is a good buddy of mine is working on a fan project related of course to the franchise.

He told me about a certain exchange he had with a member of his team, during a routine chat online. He's of course ommitted the name, but this is something that has me consternated, and I'd like to ask you all for advice to give to him:

(My friend is Brony Friend, the other person is Collaborator, or Collab)

Collab: I should get back to it once I'm done working on my fanfic.

Brony Friend: Cool. What's the fic about?

Collab: Rainbow Dash not being able to achieve a stunt and failing overall. Crosses with the main universe.

Brony Friend: Crosses into our universe?

Collab: Our universe?

Brony Friend: Ours. Human universe.

Collab: Oh, no. Never. Humans are disgusting.

Brony Friend: Whoa there. I resent that remark.

Collab: Of course you would. Typical of a human.

Brony Friend: What?

**Chat ends here**

You may think this a little thing, however, I myself felt something cold and bitter inside me upon reading that line. My friend told me he was almost crying out of rage, as he felt betrayed by a person he's had a good working relationship for several months, and who is a core member of the project would make such a statement. My gut told me this was the voice of one of those "Us Vs Them" kind of furs who, of course, despise all the bigotry, prejudice, and close-mindedness the horrible hyoomans have always been guilty of. (Sarcasm brought to you tonight by the Syrius Belsferg Spiced Rum distillery. Drink responsibly, my friends.)

I've tried to provide comfort and support to him, because of course not all furs are like that. I can understand he'd feel backstabbed by a coworker talking to him (the head of the project, nonetheless) in a derogatory manner that goes beyond an insinuation. He's burned close to 3000 dollars of his own money into paying artists and musicians and always giving credit where credit is due, on something that is going to be released for free so he can share his vision with everyone, not only the fandom.

But F*** that, right? He's still disgusting for obviously having chosen to be born a Homo Sapiens, given he had so many options at conception. (I'm being sarcastic here out of indignation)

Please forgive me for making a big deal out of this, but this person is a really dear friend to me. The way I see it, this is like getting kicked in the groin for handing out cold drinking water in a hot day.

What are your two cents, foks?

I've dealt with idiots like that. Some really believe it. I've even (on occasion) made a similar comment, but always in the context of "I'm embarrassed to be human" and not an outright declaration of hatred.

It just goes to show the mentality (or lack of it) where someone believes in a fantasy they've built in their head more than they do in reality. These are the same people who wind up pissed off at the world for not bowing to their vision of how things should be while flipping burgers at McFappers.

I just take two frak* and ignore them.
