I am announcing that it will be posted on both sites on Wednesday, September 11. It will probably go up some time around midnight, which means that it could actually be available an hour or two before, but not much before that.
I'll post here again when it's available on at least one site.

Okay, all three of you - it's available. Chapter 9 has been posted on both the Planetfurry site and on the kinsfire.net site. (Also at my home server, but that's to be expected...LOL)
Big-@$$ed Warning: This chapter may offend a few people. I won't explain why, since it would give something away that I don't want to. Just be aware that you might get offended.

If I was a fundamentalist Christian, I can say that I could take offense. HOWEVER!!! I'm not. I'm a Christian with baptist and dispensationalistic tendencies. It makes for rather interesting discussions with my Christian reformed baptist wife.
Plus, since this is a written exercise and not a RL situation, I have no need to question my belief system. SO! as always, an excellent chapter. Your treatment of the deities and the rather unique solution is exquisite.
Good luck Kevin!!! Yer gonna need it! _________________ "Do not Taunt Happy Fun God" -Cthulhu |

Since I read your story today, now there are officially four readers.
BTW, who are the other three members of that most exlusive club? |

Obviously, Fishburne. Then there's me. I'm not sure about how he's counting the others -- Kinsfire, do you and Catspaw count in that number? I think Tygon is in there, and I'm reasonably certain of Mike - he's the one that warned me Chapter 9 was imminant.
*Blink* May be time to retake a census, Kinsfire -- looks like your numbers almost have to be off... |

Finally took a few minutes to read Chapter Nine. Then reread Chapter Eight, and reread Chapter Nine again.
Wow. Mike's right about what you could have titled it - or subtitled it. You're title works very well too. And you needn't worry about offending me. K, my friend, it looks like you and I share a view of Diety. That was perfect. I can tell that this one is one I will be rereading often - just how often I don't know. But it is superb.
I think I'll end this now - if I continue, I'm going to start babbling. (Like I haven't been already.) Magnificent, K. - a tour d'force. |

Why didn't anybody told me I'm in that club? Then I would have read it
I have read it up to chapter 3. Then I lost the track (like with many other stories) and so far I haven't found it.
Sorry, Kinsfire. I guess I'm working on too much stories of my own _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

No prob, Tygon - I know what it's like to lose track of the stories - I actually haven't had the time to read ZZtS in months. <ducking thrown tomatoes>
I guess I fell prey to what every writer does sometimes - there's not discussion on a chapter that you think should generate discussion, so you start to wonder if others are reading it. (Forgetting, of course, that other have *GASP* lives! )
I think I was also worried because - well, you've got to admit that this chapter could cause a little consternation. (I want to ask a question of people, but it could ruin the chapter for those who haven't read it.)
The comments have been heartening. And interesting.

Can you tell hat they were written in opposite order? In fact, I think I was still putting the finishing touches on 7 when 9 insisted on being written.

Amusingly, I asked Mike about that, and apparently he was referring to SK's story - but I see EXACTLY what you mean, when he told me the possible title you were thinking of. (As someone who's been lucky enough to get a pre-read of the chapter, I guarantee you that it works equally well for Khan's...)
At one point, I thought that Kevin and I were separating as of this chapter, but I've had some interesting thoughts about that, and I'm no longer so sure - although it's certainly NOTHING like what happened to Kevin, there is something...

I'd agree with Kinsfire- the title works enough for my chapter that it will likely be the title-- or some variant. And I'm also in the Kinsfire reader's fan club- I'm just a silent member most of the time. (As I happen to be w/ regard to the majority of the authors here in PF.)
As far as deities go, I'm a "quasi-monolithic" type-- not that I can't believe in the existence of God*s*, but that I usually put them down to being different aspects or representations of the *one* Creator. My own personal thing- to me, it allows me to encompass all deities. Go fig. (Enough about that...)
Now, the story....
I loved it, personally speaking. The speech of....."Kevin", wasn't as........."high spoken" as I would have imagined it, but it definitely works, and makes the message clear and unavoidably understandable (which many people in this world need-- need it much like air, in fact...). I do have a couple of questions to ask Kinsfire, though I'll ask them personally - don't want to have him giving away trade secrets to the readers now, do we?
Ciao!

To be honest, I tend to look at it the same way. If there are multiple gods you see, they are all aspects of the Ultimate. We see it as multiples simply because our brains would squirt out our ears at hyperlight velocities if we tried to emcompass EVERYTHING.

Ah, well, if you recall, I said that everyone heard it differently. Kevin is very plainspoken, although occasionally poetic about it. Gina heard it in technical language. You, undoubtedly, would have heard it in a manner more along the lines of what you think it should have sounded like. (It might be interesting to see how others would rewrite that same speech. If you do, send me a copy - I just might find a way to include it somewhere in the story...)

*Grin* I seem to be getting confused a lot lately. Ah, well, the reminders of my fallibility are probably good for me - otherwise, I tend to wander off into areas in which I have no business... |

You can count me as a "Lurker Reader" , and have been following the story as each chapter has been posted.
I started reading Chapter 9 earlier today, and...couldn't finish it. I could not shake the feeling it was somehow, for me, inappropriate. When I returned home this evening, I finished reading it with no problem. Then I re-read it again and found I liked it.
I mention this to illustrate the weird rollercoaster kind of day it is today.

There is a word for it -- it's called "monolatry" -- One god, many faces. While some reconstructionist pagans are hard polytheists, the more eclectic Wiccan types tend to monolatry -- or at least to duolatry (God and Goddess, each with many aspects). |
