The new CD-changer (A CDX-P670) works fine...
(Had to drill two new mounting-holes as the unit is slightly smaller than the old one)
My DVD player, a Toshiba SD-3107E model, is still on the blitz.
Checked om www.videohelp.com to see how it could be 'de-zoned' again, but as I feared it states that you need a special programmer and cable to do it. (It was de-zoned in the store before I bought it)
As the warranty is waaaaay past, I'd have to pay a service charge without any real promise that it would work, so I decided to use some of my emergency funds...
I ended up with the cheapest player I could find(The only absolute for me was that it could be switched to Zone 1)
It can play CD-R and CD-RW's, MP3(which I don't use) and Kodak Photo CD's. (May fill a few CD's with my favourite online comics...)
Unfortunately, it doesn't have an optical-out, so the old Toshiba still have a task to do: transferring music to my MD-Player...
Now for the really horrendous news...
In a couple of weeks I begin on a 5days MCP course in manageing M$ WinBlows Server 2003. It's a $2000 course, so I guess I shouldn't complain as the office is picking up the tab for it. _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

Checked the price at the gas-station today...
NOK 10.50/litre...
A quick calculation, assuming an US Gallon is 3.785 litre, and the US$ is at 6.70NOK today, I get it to be almost $6/gallon...
I've been told that the high price is because of the unrest in the east and the low stores of oil in the USA...
They also predict even higher prices as for many Americans the 'drivin season' begins now, and they start up all those hyper-polluting gas-guzzlers...
F**K IT!
If your car can't do at least 20miles/gallon, why haven't you junked it already?
Or do you actually enjoy driving a car that pollutes worse than an old East-German Trabant?
Any truckers read this?
Please do the world a favour by pushing a rusty, old pickup off the road today... _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

They open the parking lot for guest at 03:00, and the launch is at about 06:30, with a projected mission time of about 1:30hours, so I expect the mess to have largely cleared by mid-afternoon...
As you're nearby, you're hereby ordered NOT to go to work, but instead dig out a VERY good camera that day and take a lot of pictures... _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

What's new?
Got to try Sly Raccoon on a PS2 yesterday.
The cartoony style is nice, but... I don't know.
Also tried Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on a GameCube.
There was NO explanation of the pros and cons of the different races when I defined a character...
(Not good)
If you want to go multi-player, everyone needs a GameBoy Advance and the GBA-GC cable instead of the ordinary controllers.
The reason is that this game isn't turn-based, so everyone instead uses the screen of the GBA for menus and stats.

My wife LOVES Sly Cooper, but when I tried it I thought the controls were a little "mushy". Hopefully the upcoming sequel will address that. |

Good news:
The M$ course has been postponed until late September.
Bad news:
Last night when I was replying to an email, my PDA spontaneously reset itself.
Luckily, most of my data is on memory cards...
Except for the email, of course...
I've meant to archive the messages, but as it's a semi-manual task, I've been postponing it...
(I'm using a Macro known as 'SaveMail' to store messages in data files)
What I'm trying to say is that I've lost from 1 to 4 months of messages on various topics...
Maybe, if the thing hadn't been as stable as it is, I would have been more diligent in backing up... _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

Borrowed a PS2 with a friend so that I could play a couple of games he thought I would like...
One of those games allowed me to switch to a 60Hz refresh mode, but...
The silly thing switched to some sort of NTSC mode, so all I got was a grainy B/W picture.
Yes, the PS2 is an European PAL model, and the game really IS for PAL...
My GameCube and even the venerable Seaga DreamCast have no problems with PAL60 mode.
In other news, I now have surround-sound...
Or, at least I will have as soon as I can put up the wires for the rear speakers...
Seen the cool 'motorcycle' used in the Pokemon Colosseum game?

A quick Google search supplied the following info:
Quote: | PAL : 60Hz support, but low-resolution NTSC picture so many may prefer PAL50 picture.
PS2 doesn't support PAL60, all 60hz games run in NTSC.
Did the original poster say that the PS2 DOES support PAL60?
PS2 /doesn't/ support PAL60. If you select 60hz mode on a PAL PS2 it will put it into NTSC mode for 60hz compatibility. Try it with a PAL only TV and you'll see the picture lose all colour.
The game runs at a low resolution, ie close to 320x240 like most Playstation titles. This combined with the NTSC picture produces a picture that has very noticeable interlacing, thus PAL gamers will likely want to choose 50Hz. |
This was on another site:
Quote: | Thanks to Basti Grünwald for the following:
For PAL PlayStation 2s or DVD Players an RGB cable is common to connect PlayStations or DVD-Players to the television. Most DVD-Players and the PS2 converts NTSC Signals to PAL60. Now there are some cables that can not transport the whole PAL60 format completely - it depends on the type of RGB-Cable you use: In order to receive NTSC DVDs in full color on your PAL TV screen when played with a DVD-Player or the PS2 you need:
- a TV set that supports PAL60 (nearly every one does)
- an fully pinned RGB Cable (most cables delivered with DVD Players or PS2 aren't fully pinned, because for PAL you only need half of the pins)
- a TV set with a fully pinned RGB slot (sometimes you have to activate something in your television menu so that the TV set lets all signals in, normally called: "AV-RGB")
In 99% of all cases, the problem of B/W color is just because the signal is not transported through the cable, because it's not fully pinned. Note: The PS2 is normally delivered without an RGB cable at all (only with simple cinch cables that won't work as well). |

So what they're saying is that the PS2 maybe supports it when playing DVD's?
Or that it's my TV that has problems?
(I know it supports the AV-RGB mode as it's what is used when I play Zone 1 DVDs )
Doesn't matter...
Something else that puzzles me...
I looked at a boxed PS2's in a store, and there it was displayed standing vertically, with a 'stand', and as I understand it, that's how it's ALWAYS depicted...
But... the stand is an optional extra...
In other news:
This afternoon I begin on a tree week vacation...

Yeah, the stand is sold separately, but not really needed. It's a simple matter of just flipping the little PS logo on the drive so it looks right. The plastic stand doesn't really help it stand up any better.
Though there ARE reports that the DVD drive does burn out a great deal faster if you have it vertical rather than horizontal. _________________
