Good boys over there, maybe now things'll speed up over there and we can get everyone home within a year. Well Dave you might not have seen this while you were around but I'm betting your kicked back drinking a beer and celebrating like crazy up there. The King is gone, now for the remainders of the cards to fall.
Good show guys....

Hrm, news to me...
I really couldn't care, sorry, but I've found that blatant apathy is the only way to not get involved in any arguments.
Sure, Saddam was an arse, but I didn't support the US either, so once again, all those who sit on the fence, come and join me! |

Was great news to hear when I woke up this morning, hopefully it will provide some closure to those who lost family members to him or to the war in general.
IMO, this is a great victory for the United States, but I think we'll be hearing about more terrorist attacks from his loyalists in the next few weeks.
All in all, yesterday and today were great days for our soldiers, Great job guys! |

Wait, they did a DNA test on him? He has a bucketload of 'clones', isn´t it possible that he has somehow managed to keep his DNA to himself? |

I want to say this:
I haven't kept up with the 'war'. Frankly, about a month after 9/11, my life returned to normal -- except for all of the news reports. A terrible thing happened there and then, but I didn't know anyone there. I'd never been there. I grieved for the loss of life, and hoped that many could be found.
But I admit it, I was probably more affected by the bombing in Oklahoma years ago, because that's the state I was born in.
Terrorism is a constant in the world, in one form or another. Read your history books and find out about Spanish Conquistadors (sorry if I misspelled them)... find out about the first Settlers of the American Colonies, who drove the Native Americans into Casinos and Tabacco Farms. (Tongue-in-cheek there.)
Osama Bin-Laden is still 'at large', and it would seem he was indeed the primary force against the United States, and especially the attack at 9/11. We've had our shot at Saddam before, and just as we were about to pull the trigger we turned away.
The United States didn't want to become a murderer, even though her people cried for it.
Was finally capturing Saddam a victory for the United States? Yeah, okay. I can accept that. The man can stand trial for waging war; war that resulted in the death of US Troops. But what about Iraq? Isn't it more of a victory for THEM? He terrorized their country directly. Thousands of people have probably died under his rule, and to them when their cousin Saheeb (or whatever) was drug out in the middle of the street and SHOT, it was just another Tuesday.
They've been victimized by their ruler. In the United States, we turn to the president in time of need and say "Reassure us. Make us feel safe. Make us laugh, so we can't feel pain." In Iraq, they turned to the president and said "Please don't kill us."
I'm the first to admit that I haven't kept up on the war. Yes, these people have to be brought down, but at the same time I had to ask why we couldn't heal the United States, first. With problems of overfunding the government and having everything wasted... the national debt steadily climbing for no obvious reason... medicare and disability funds and taxation in question... a recovering economy... homeless abound, poor schooling, sub-level housing... and countless other problems on our home soil.
But we largely ignore them, turning toward other countries instead, just so we can publically say "We're fine! See? It's just a limp, we're still strong. We can make it! We're still a superpower!"
The political in-fighting with France, for instance. They've been bashed left and right, and just for saying they didn't want a war -- as far as I can tell. I don't care if their reason is life or money. They're intitled to their opinion and they didn't have to join in if they didn't want to. And yet the United States public hated it. They bashed the French, renamed products with stupid names like "Freedom Fries", and wrote propaganda about how we should just take over France.
And yet, Lady Liberty still stands, a gift from France -- a reminder of our past. Did we forget that France, too, has their own Lady of Liberty? In our thirst for blood and our seeking of vengance, did we forget to be compassionate and understanding?
The main affect all of this has had on people in other countries is economy, and "Stupid Bush, wha a bully." Or "Stupid Bush, what a funny." For many people, the biggest change in their lives has been dealing with higher gas prices and having trouble finding a job.
For the United States, the families that sit down to the dinner table with one less chair now have some cause for cheer. We got the guy behind the war in Baghdad. We got the guy that caused the Conflicts in the Desert.
But we still don't have the guy that tore the New World in half, and killed millions. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, before that eventuality.
Bin-Laden and Hussein had many supporters, many followers. While their morale might have fallen with the capture of Hussein, who's to say that more people won't die in their search to reclaim him?
I realize I'm being very sobering. I'm not saying that finally capturing Saddam isn't a great thing, I'm just saying to keep it in context. We're not done in Iraq yet, not by a long shot.

No flames from me. I agree that we have a long way to go in Iraq. Capturing Saddam is but a step. When I first saw this blurb, I thought it was a joke, or another stupid flash thing. But no...it's real. I still don't know how to feel about that. I'm happy that he's caught. But I know there's a lot of work left to do. I also think "War on Terrorism" will not work. They target the MIddle East. Well, Terrorism unfortunately is a part of the human psyche. Some people will resort to awesome violence to get what they want, and they come from all over the world. No one can force that change.
I just want to live my life the way I wish in peace. Perhaps that's a little selfish of me, but I can say that I am honestly grateful to be living in a place that gives me every opportunity to do so. God Bless the USA. We have our problems but we have our high points as well. _________________ Doctor Kayngi

You brought up some valid points, Gabriel. It is true that the U.S. in general seems to be blind to the suffering within its own borders. During the events depicted in Black Hawk Down in Somalia, 18 American soldiers lost their lives. During that same period of time, there was at least 40 people who died in the U.S. as a result of homicide. Which garnered a stronger reaction from the nation?
Even though Saddem is now in our custody, there will still be people with guns and a bone to pick. By definition, the War on Terrorism is without end. Unfortunately, we cannot maintain our superpower status if we return to isolationism to avoid such terrorism. Until world-wide peace becomes a reality (and I hope I live to see it), the U.S. still needs to maintain its vigilance in defending itself and its allies. In this respect, America is a warrior society, a tradition carried over from its infancy, otherwise it would have never achieved independence. But that does not excuse us from becoming tyrants.
I'd better stop before I go into my martial-philosopher mode. |

The only thing I don’t like is that he is still alive .
Oh well, I suppose capture and imprisonment will have a better psychological effect on any one left dumb enough to fight for him. _________________ You are what I eat. |

If we would have killed him he'd be a Marter which can be even more dangerous than having him alive. _________________
