Hey folks. I recently did a speedpaint on Opencanvas of Maxx and I knife-fighting. *cough*shamelessplug*cough* The youtube video link is in that thread too. ^^

I used a free piece of software called Screen Recorder Gold to capture my scribblings into a video file. But it recorded it into some weird codec that only Flash seemed to recognize. As you can see, flash video tends to get very chewed up once it's been edited and exported.

Was wondering if you guys knew of a better, free, screen recording software that uses common codecs and doesn't chug PC memory too much. Only other I'm aware of is something called FRAPS. But it can be really memory-intensive. Confused

Anyone got a better idea?

My solution is kind of complicated:

My Desktop can output component video in HI-Def (Say, 720P). I'd use Hauppauge's PVR 1212 capture box on my laptop, and record it in MP4 or something similar. The included software will let me make a DVD or even blu-ray out of that. Or something similar. It is expensive and elaborate, but it sure as hell looks good.

On the other hand, you can get a DVD recorder and an S-Video (Or RGB scart-enabled) video card for your PC, record to DVD and then rip the video back. That's what a friend does with his game tutorials by recording off the consoles. It's easy and looks good.

Hmmm. That sounds very hardware based. But being an old media student, I think I have the kit to pull that off. x3

Cheers for that guys!
