How in H! is Earthlink staying in business?
Here they would have changed ownership and name several times by now, to get rid of their bad rep, or just been gutted and shut down a long time ago.
(Of course, we have real 'consumer ombudsmen' and laws that protect customers... They've even taken on Apple... )
As for your printer woes...
Are those all inkjets?
HP doesn't know how to build good inkjets.
Get a laserprinter instead.
They're not that much more expensive, they cost less to run, and if a problem crops up(usually SW problems, as HP doesn't do SW very well, either) support tends to take those a bit more seriously. _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

I beg to differ I've had 3 HP inkjets and have been very happy with them. mind you these were in the 800, 900, and the photosmart 6100 series. I never messed with the lower end models. Now if you want to talk about a company that does not know how to build inkjets I can tell you horror stories about several Lexmark models. _________________ "Political Correctness is tyranny with manners." I can add a few horror stories about their lasers, too...
(For years, we used Lexmark lasers to print out Drivers licenses)
As for HPs inkjets, I have experience with the 850, 1100, 1120, 1220(those three are A3 size) and when thinking back, we once had an HP inkjet with 180dpi, which everyone thought was the dogs' whatever...
There may have been a 560 there, possibly something in the 600 range, and I KNOW there was a 340 'portable' model.
We had a couple of Canon inkjets, BJC80 or something. Very small and with ridiculously small carts. Also 'portable'. I know of one user who took it with him on a trip to Brazil... If it's in the cellars at the office, I bet it still has the original carts installed. No one ever used it more than once...
After the 1100 and 1200 series printers, it was taken an 'executive decision' at the office...
(I told my boss that I refused to have any more to do with them, and he agreed)
After that, we haven't installed a single inkjet at the office.
(A few have one of the newer ones, but they've been told that IT won't help them with it, when it breaks. We don't even stock the cartridges)
We use lasers almost exclusively for printing everywhere, even in 'mobile offices' in the back of vans. (No inkjet would ever be able to take that kind of abuse)
The ONLY Inkjet systems we do support are the A0 plotters.
(Currently we have a few Designjet 2500, 5500 and 4000 series plotters. And we just switched of the ancient 750. It's in good working order and had a full service with all major replaceable parts swapped, even the carriage-position belt, which tends to dissolve when it gets old - only months beore it was relegated to backup use. Anyone want it? cheaply if going to a loving home... Alternatively, it goes to a breaker to salvage parts. )
Personally, I parked my Canon BJC4000 (from 1995 or 96, I think. I bought it a few days before it was officially available here. I have contacts) a couple of years ago and bought a B/W laser for home usage.
That laser is the next to be binned, as soon as I use up the toner.
(Konica-Minolta PagePro 1300W. Bl**dy junk, GDI based, useless for my Macs and Linux machines. It's also sloooooow...)
The replacement is a HP LJ2100 B/W laser I liberated at the office, complete with external network card and several cartridges.
(It jams now and then, so it was put aside as 'emergency use only' and we now have more modern 'junkers' also set aside. )
Still prints OK after an estimated 100.000 pages...
As a bonus, it also has iRDA, which means I can print directly to it from my PDA. _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

The only thing I hated about the two models I had before the photosmart was those damned tri-color carts $45+ and if you used up one color faster then the others what's left is completely wasted the photosmart has separate carts for each color at a bout $10 each if you shop around. And yeah an inkjet isn't going to cut it in a busy office environment but are just fine for home use again depending on the printer mine even has WiFi so no cables _________________ "Political Correctness is tyranny with manners." Thank you all, from my Fox and I.
Didn't have time to blog about it, but the next chapter of The B Team was sent to my proof-readers last night ... fourteen months since the last chapter was put on line. <sigh> RL is certainly demanding and annoying at times ... I'm sure they'll find plenty to gig me on. Sometimes I feel like I'm forgetting how to write!

Now I'll have to re-read all the previous chapters to get back up to speed... _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

Somebody kicked my muse in the tail, and she's doing the same to me. I've already started chapter 31 ...
But it's late, and I have to go to work tomorrow. <sigh>
Later,

The HTML lists a 'changed' date from 2007...
Did someone screw up somewhere and restored an ancient backup? _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

Site is still screwed up as far as I can see.
But only the front page, though... _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

If you still have problems with jerks hotlinking images on your site, here's a guide to how to stop it...
http://altlab.com/htaccess_tutorial.html
you can have a simple 'not allowed' or even a substitution... Like a .PNG of a fat guy(cartoon) mooning the viewer...
Hotlinking is NEVER acceptable unless the site specifically allows it.
