The last of the reverbs from a hasty flight seemed to have settled down ...
Noses seem pointed in the right direction of a certain odor ...
Options, so many and so few ... |

Hmmm, one question on resurrect laws - Is the court now obligated to search for 'old' cases if this one is resolved of the law?
But the above may have to wait until it can be proven as the law ... or does it? |

That is the question, isn't it? Is this a law, or is it a rumor that was repeated so many times, everyone thought it was a law?
This has become the crux of the situation. How do they get out of this mess or do they just sneak out and go back to Earth somehow?
And do not forget, Dassan is the wild card. Or is that the insane card?
Glad you're enjoying the read.

Well, they DO have a copy, but not the original (and they're digging), so after due diligence (and sweeping the documents), if they don't find the original do they declare the whole thing 'null & void' (corrupted copy) or 'put on hold' while a deeper search is done ... |

The Elazian courts are pretty much sticklers about having all the paperwork. If they cannot find the paperwork, particularly that tally sheet, then it would be hard for the prosecution to press forward. That's when the arbiters that originally did their due diligence will step forward with the proof they uncovered (or not.)
There does exist the possibility the charges could get dismissed, especially if the Global Senate were to intervene. On hold would be a more likely call, maening they are charged but the court is holding judgement pending the documents. _________________ "Старый боевой конь, Кeллан" |

OK, but are they placed under 'house arrest' condition or stay in 'detention' until 'proper' documentation is presented (or the case is dismissed because there is no documentation) ...
Forgot one of the basics, are Elazian courts 'Guilty until proven' or 'Innocent until proven' ... as the former leads to the latter above while the latter leads to the former above ... |

The Elazian courts are "Innocent until proven guilty" in all matters.
Now, the situation as it stands has them in detention because Jeffrey cannot post bail due to not being Elazi-born. That whole Bil invasion/occupation thing prompted that. Na'Krista cannot post bail due to a extenuation circumstance, Jeffrey being charged puts her under the same constraints as Jeff because she is involved with the same charges.
Yeah, not an ideal circumstance but it is what it is. _________________ "Старый боевой конь, Кeллан" |

Hmmmm, how is the bail system done? If there isn't a bails-bond operation available, wouldn't the family become involved in paying it?
Was that an option not explained to our mixed couple? |

Their bail system is very similar to ours. They would post 10% of the release deposit with a bank. Should They be found innocent, the bail is refunded with interest. A guilty verdict would use the funds to pay court fees and the balance refunded.
No options were offered due to the issues that jailed them during the trial. _________________ "Старый боевой конь, Кeллан" |

Based on what's been happening, it seems someone is destined to throw a wrench into the defense team's works. Things aren't looking so good for an extended member of the family while others are becoming frustrated.
And, I should warn you; if you didn't like what has happened to our intrepid couple so far, better keep your favorite blankey nearby while you read on.
Chapter 39 of "Scribe"
Read on, if you dare.

Jeff really should have asked for a couple of minutes more ... (though straining ones wrist, elbow, and shoulder is better or worse that stopping walls with ones face)
Hmmm, bringing the photo album out are we, at least it's not baby pictures ... |
