Growing up, Mom, Dad and the rest of the family that were old enough spoke about war-time rationing. Specifically WW2. I always listened but I just couldn't comprehend the scale of it. What they had to do without or in some cases, substitute, i.e. Oleomargarine for butter.
Now I know what they were talking about. Our local stores putting strict limits on items, some shelves empty of bread, toilet paper, disinfectant wipes, etc. I understand now. My family and I are currently in lockdown, more or less. Only essential trips to the grocery stores, pharmacies, doctors and if a need arises, the hardware store. We can buy gas, but I heard it might be rationed, too.
Now I know. And what bothers me is the profiteers that thought they could get away with price gouging on FB Marketplace, Craigslist and Ebay. Costco has a new "No Return" policy on toilet paper, disinfectant wipes, etc. And what will you do with a butt-tonne of bread? Gotta freeze it or it will go bad. Do people really have this much freezer space?
Oh well . . . _________________ "Старый боевой конь, Кeллан" |
