It's true! Activision is merging with Vivendi/Blizzard!

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=31138

I'm not sure what to think about this. I have *TONS* of respect for Blizzard; they have put out very high quality games (Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft, World of Warcraft, etc.). Activision is a respectable publisher as well (Tony Hawk series, Guitar Hero, Call of Duty), but I don't know what the new company will be like. Will the quality of their games go down or up?

One good thing, though--E.A. is no longer the king!

As long as it doesn't turn into another EA or AOL-Time Warner, I'm happy.

This could be good or bad. We'll just have to see.

I remember when Activision used to have their own game console named the intelivision. They've come a long way since then. Given the reputation of both acivision and Blizzard I guess all we can do is wait and see.

I am very skeptical as what I am seeing is of my opinon the is the fall of Blizzard.

WoW, while a good game, has not been a turning point to the standards that Blizzard use to follow.

It started out as the usual prime Blizzard fare but as it progressed things started to become souring. The more the game progressed and grew popular the more the focused seem to turn from making a game to enjoy to making a game that rakes in as much profit as possible.

Things that were promised at the game's release are now being pushed into expansions (hero classes), storylines have become weaker with the newer additions and the game seems more focused on forcing you to spend hours sitting and clicking a mouse when told and unable to break off if tired rather than anything else (raids, raids and more raids).

I am also worried about the rumours Blizzard has been bleeding talent. We all know the Diablo team has left them (creators of Hellgate under their own new studio) which leaves one has to wonder who else has packed up and left.

Something tells me aquiring Activision may be to replace lost talent and give access to the console market since while World of Warcraft is nice, eventually it will become dated.

I guess if Starcraft II lives up to the standards of the past I may be forgiving in my views but for now one has to wonder what is going on behind the scenes of a company who seems to be stray of its former self.

Given my rather fractured and short term memory your probably right. Razz (is it odd that my memory is slipping at the age of 26?)
