|
|
Well, I've caught the bug, and I've started drawing furry art. This is a piece that was based on Cirrel's anthro head tutorial (found at http://www.planetfurry.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2373).
For now, this is just the pencil drawing scanned into Photoshop. During the next day or two, I'm going to ink, color, shade, and highlight it, and I'll post my progress.
I would really appreciate some feedback on this! Thanks in advance. _________________ Styx: "Oh sure like flaming a dragon going to do massive damage, brave challenge there Teric." |

Ok, here it is after I brought it into Photoshop and inked the lines. _________________ Styx: "Oh sure like flaming a dragon going to do massive damage, brave challenge there Teric." |

Very nice!
Ah, the furry drawing bug! I got hit with it last month. This month I'm in story writing mode, hehe...
Do you have a drawing tablet, or are you just working with a mouse? A drawing tablet with Photoshop is heaps of fun. _________________ - Kendo Virmir

GADS, I wish I had a tablet! But no, I'm just using an optical mouse. It still does the job just fine, but the artists here at work all have tablets, and I've seen what they can do with them. /drool
Yeah, I was hit by the writing bug last month--I came up with a fanfic for the 'Zig Zag: The Story' novel. _________________ Styx: "Oh sure like flaming a dragon going to do massive damage, brave challenge there Teric." |

I looks real good!
Are you going to set highlights?
I think this would make him more 3-Dimensional... _________________ soft paws,

Here is the shaded version. I'm not perfectly happy with the shading, but I realize that I'm still learning here. _________________ Styx: "Oh sure like flaming a dragon going to do massive damage, brave challenge there Teric." |

Awesomeness on the picture, and a good start on the shading.
Also, you plan on writing something involving this charector?

Hadn't thought about writing anything about this character. I guess I could, huh...
This character is just a practice guy I came up with while trying to develop my newbie art skills. Though some day (if I get good enough), I'd like to put up my own online comic strip, and I plan to have at least one fox character in it. _________________ Styx: "Oh sure like flaming a dragon going to do massive damage, brave challenge there Teric." |

Not bad at all!
Burn (darken) tool, right? I used to shade with the burn tool a lot, but then I started playing with plain black on a separate layer with 50% opacity (gives a more cartoonish look, which I like, heh). _________________ - Kendo Virmir

Actually, Virmir, I used the burn tool very little (only on the really dark shaded areas). I read somewhere that simply darkening the color creates an un-interesting color interaction between your lights & darks.
So instead, I took the base color, darkened the hue, then added a bit of a contrasting color (for example, when I shaded the red fur, I added a bit of yellow to the darker hue). Then, for the actual shading, I used the paintbrush tool, with 0% hardness, 30% flow, and 30% opacity. That way, I could shade bit by bit, making multiple passes if needed.
Good tutorial here on shading: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/33968439/?qo=1&q=anthro+tutorial&qh=boost%3Apopular+age_sigma%3A24h+age_scale%3A5 _________________ Styx: "Oh sure like flaming a dragon going to do massive damage, brave challenge there Teric." |
