Chapter 6: Once Upon a Memory.

The three of them lay huddled nearly naked together under the blankets in the bed, to complete the scene like some porn movie would the cigarette smoking and the cheap music in the back ground. But going around the room, the place is cold; ice cold. The windows are frosted over and from the area that was wiped clear, the snow is blowing hard as everything outside is buried in snow piled up to over 4 feet deep everywhere. The TV was on, with the news breaking in saying that the city was shutdown due to the storm: no trains, no buses, no santitation, barely enough police and ambulances out there that could traverse the snow. Sub-zero temperatures and harsh winds say that this is no ordinary storm for its been like this for the past 2 days, as it will continue for another 3 days, the blizzard of '83 rages on.

The three of them lay in bed huddled around the one in the middle- the male of the three who was still asleep. The other two, each one to on either side of him, awake with the blanket they shared covering their chests. There were some spilt items on the bed, along with two large menilla envelopes where the contents came from. They were plugged in to a silver box, listenning in on the ear buds connected to it and one of them was reading assorted papers. As they been for the past hour or two, listening on what was recorded in that box

"So, once upon a time, Fernando came back through time and rescued you from being killed by your ex-husband?", one saids to the other.

"How else would you explain all this stuff?", the other says to the first.

"I dont know. Buy aren't you scared to know that you could have been killed, along with your baby inside you?", Tthe first asks.

"I dont want to think about that, Jaunita.", she says to her.

"If this were real, you should be dead by now, Cathy.", Jaunita says.

"And he would be out there looking for me.", Cathy says.

"Not if I could help it.", Jaunita says.

"Dont take this as an offense, but I would want him to be out there looking for me, yet I do not want him to be hurt.", Cathy said.

"Have you seen how it is out there?", Jaunita tells her, "Almost 6 feet of everywhere, sub zero temperatures, and here that wind howling out there! His body would not be able to handle that, and he too would be dead, looking for you."

"But according to this, he survived, somehow. And yes, he admits that you were there for him during this time, now and after my funeral.", Cathy says as she closes her eyes and clenches her lips up the last word. She then takes a deep breath through her nose. "I dont know what got over Randal, he almost killed me if it were not for Fernando's future self coming in when he did."

"Jealous Rage...", Jaunita said.

Cathy closes her eyes to think. After a while she opens them, "Look, Jaunita. Thank you."

"What for?", Jaunita asks.

"For being there for me, and for him.", Cathy explained.

"What are friends for?", Jaunita asks.

"We're beyond friends, Jaunita... more than just gossipy, talkative, secret telling, lunch sharing, game playing friends... You and him share everything through that connection?", Cathy saids and then asks.

"Everything, just about.", Jaunita saids.

"What dont you share?", Cathy asks.

"No, we do share everything, but certain things we dont pay attention too. You know- like the personal stuff when you go to the bathroom.", Jaunita asks.

"Heh... So when you go through your period....", Cathy started to ask.

"He goes through it too; but for me, it helps out a lot because he has a higher threshold of pain than I do.", Jaunita says.

"You're lucky to have him.", Cathy says.

"You're the one married to him...", Jaunita stated back.

"You're the one mentally tethered to him.", Cathy says, "So.... uhm... all those times we had made love-you were there?"

Jaunita lets out a sigh before speaking, "Afraid so. But Cathy... Uhm, I dont know how to say this but you two have something that if I were a guy, I would want to have with you... understand what I'm trying to say?"

"Yeah, sorta...", Cathy replies.

"But these are private moments between you two, so I try to block it as best as I can.", Jaunita tries to explain further.

"So... Uhm... dont get this wrong... OK?", Cathy tried say, as she looks down and closes her eyes. She then reaches over, putting her arm around Jaunita's neck before looking up at her. "Just one thing before I ask you to do me a favor."

"What is it?", Jaunita asks.

"If Fernando were to ever cheat on me...", Cathy started to say.

"He would never cheat on you... he loves you too much, I know that to be true.", Jaunita jumps in interupting her.

"No- listen, please. Look, if he were to cheat on me, I would want it to be you.", Cathy says.

"Why?", Jaunita asks.

"Because I know that he loves you as much as he does me. And if you are his mental equal, I know that you love him too... but more importantly, I would want you to share bodies with him as much as you share your thoughts and feeling too.", Cathy says.

"I dont know what to say...", Jaunita says.

"Just say that you would. And that you will, if you want too, right now.", Cathy says.

"Cathy...", Jaunita says.

"Look... if I were to be dead right now, laying somewhere in the Promenade under all that snow, you would be here for him, and if anything happened between you and him, I would not hold it against you or him.", Cathy says.

"Dont say things like that... you're alive, I mean, look at you!", Jaunita says.

"I know...", Cathy says.

"Then dont say things like that...", Jaunita says.

"Jaunita...", Cathy called to her.

"Yes?", Jaunita answered.

"How long have we known each other.", Cathy asks.

"Too long...", Jaunita replies.

"Then dont take this wrong, OK?", Cathy asks.

"Dont take what wron...*UPHM!", Jaunita started to say, but Cathy pulled themselves together and pressed her lips against Jaunita's. After a few seconds of struggleing, Jaunita relaxes and lets the kiss turn into a light fire of passion, which only lasts a few seconds in a french kiss.

Cahy starts to pull away from her and then stare into her eyes, and gives a small smile. "Tell me that he felt that..."

For a second, Fernando stirs in the bed, more like shuttering. They both turn to face him, as they each reach down to this groin, grabbing into what ever was there. Jaunita closes her eyes for a second, "Yes, he did."

"What are we going to do with all this?", Cathy asks as she looks at the assorted things on the bed, most of it on him.

"WE?", Jaunita almost squealed. "Future Stock Quotes, Dates of Winning Lottery Numbers, Future Technology... you two can be the riches people on earth!"

"I dont want to be rich, which is why, I want to share it with you...", Cathy says.

"Huh?", Jaunita says.

"Look, money and power corrupts, and I have seen him under those condictions. Its not pretty. But if I share this with you, things could be a little better for everyone.", Cathy says.

"Uhm... but... I can never marry anyone if I suddenly became rich, Cathy. Its hard enough to try to find somebody right for me when all I read in their minds is that they want to only have sex with me. Add being rich, then they would want my money too.", Jaunita says.

"You telling me that out of everyone in the whole world, you have not been able to find somebody right for you?", Cathy asks.

"I have. But he's married to you.", Jaunita explains.

"Then there is only one thing to do...", Cathy says.

"Whats that?", Jaunita asks.

"He's yours.", Cathy says.

"What?!!", Jaunita almost squealed.

"If it were possible, I would want you to marry him and be his second wife.", Cathy says.

"But...", Jaunita says.

"I know... We're more than friends, Jaunita- the three of us, we transended through time so that I would continue to live when I should have died. So that makes us more than anything. So, I'm realizing that If Fernando needs something that only you can give him, then I say, dont be afraid and give it.", Cathy explains.

"I dont know...", Jaunita says.

"Just answer me this-", Cathy started to say.

"Huh?", Jaunita instinctive replied.

"Look- do you... take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have, to hold, to cherish, to love and obey, through good times and bad, until death do you part?", Cathy asks, as she rummages through one of the envelopes.

"...I....do?", Jaunita says scared out of her wits. Then Cathy takes her right hand, taking out the wedding rings from the envelope and puts them on her ring finger.

"How does it feel, Mrs. Gutierrez?", Cathy asks her.

"Where did you get these?", Jaunita asks.

"They are, huh... these.", Cathy says.

"What?", Jaunita asks.

"Its hard to understand... but they are the exact same ones as these, except they went through 40 years of going into the future that was without me, and when Fernando came back to save me, they were given to me with the rest of the this. It is... to explain it- one set of rings, doubled due to this paradox of time.", Cathy tells her.

Jaunita reaches over to take Cathy's right hand and examines the rings on her finger, then tries to put her right hand to her to compare the rings. Cathy quickly withdraws. "Why you pulled away?", Jaunita says.

"Dont you feel it? They get hot when they get close, and I dont know what they would do if they were to touch.", Cathy says.

"They're reactive?", Jaunita asks.

"Dont you feel them being warm?", Cathy asks.

"Well... I'm too emotional to think straight to even notice...", Jaunita stated.

"It has to do something with them being a single thing copied twice in time. Fernando would know the science behind it, I'm just... You want some private time with him to consumate your marriage?", Cathy says and then asks.

"Its not an offical marriage.", Jaunita asks.

"No, but its a marriage that we, err... I would allow; just us three.", Cathy says.

"Us three, versus the world?", Jaunita asks.

"Yes... according to this- there will some mighty dark time to come ahead, and we would have to be ready for it.", Cathy explains.

"But... One thing; does it say how I would live my life in that other time?", Jaunita asks.

"As far as I read, you were to marry a drug deal that became a born again christian, but it would not be an easy one, even though you were to have 7 children with him...", Cathy says, before letting out a sigh, "But it also says that you would be there for him 15 years from now to when Randal would face the firing squad for killing me."

"Firing squad?", Jaunita asks.

"Randal is in the airforce. It just took that long for everything to catch up to him, and he face his punishment.", Cathy explained.

"And what of Fernando?", Jaunita asks.

"During this time of chase, he was alone, but driven. He dropped out of college because of it, and took the lowest paying compuer job possible, so he would be able to chase Randal through the years until he was finally caught.", Cathy answers.

"And when he was caught?", Jaunita asks.

"You kept Fernando from self destructing in order to destroy Randal", Cathy answered.

"How?", Jaunita asks.

"To do that- you had to cheat on your husband, which you were having problems to begin with. You being with Fernando, eventually ended your marriage... and things went from bad to worse from there.", Cathy stated.

"We ever got back together, I mean, Fernando and I?", Jaunita asks.

"No... You had to be a single working mother of 7. You lived too far in the south and had a good job, so giving all that up to be with him, was not possible. But at least you two kept in touch for a while", Cathy says.

"So... in this act of marriage, I will never meet my future husband, and have his children...", Jaunita says to herself.

"Want to change your mind?", Cathy asks.

"No... I'll be his wife... no matter what happens after this.", Jaunita says.

"Would you want to have his children?", Cathy asks.

"If the lord allows it.", Jaunita says.

"You had 7 with the other guy...", Cathy says.

"That was with him, but things are now changed, and Fernando and I may never have children. Or maybe one. I would love to at least have one.", Jaunita says.

"Then start working on having that child...", Cathy says.

"He's asleep... let him rest.", Jaunita says.

"When he wakes up?", Cathy asks.

"Is that all you ever think about?", Jaunita says.

"No, its what we think about...", Cathy says, "Thats what loving couples do..."

"And your point being?", Jaunita asks.

Cathy sits there for a moment silently, before she starts gathering the things together, putting them back into the envelopes. Once the bed was clear and the envelopes full, she places them on the nightstand next to the bed. Then, finally, she lays down next to him, putting her head and arm on his chest, closing her eyes but not to sleep, but to enjoy the moments yet to be.

After a while, Jaunita joins them in the same, "OK, I get your point..."

I wake up, cold and scared, unsure how to handle all this- knowing that through my mother, my father is married to both of them. It answers the question as to why dad can never cheat on mom, because the one he would cheat with is also married to dad, its a love that is allowed by the three of them. Selfish or not, I think most guys would die to have such an oppertunity, and are pigs for it. But how do I handle this?
