Here lies the list of acronyms and explinations of words, acronyms and phrases used throughout the Snippets of a Digital Diary.
CPP (May be mislabled as CPG)
: the infamous Child Progidy Program of the mid to late 1970's. It is rumoured that Edwin Teller (The reknown physisist, and father of the H-Bomb), started the CPP to gather the nation smartest and brightest children for his own super-child program. Those who attented the CPP were taught only those classes inwhich their skills excelled. In my case- it was Mathematics, Science and Music.
At the time, many who went to the specialized high schools were participants of the CPP and IGC.
When the CPP was terminated for reasons unknown (it was said that Mayor Beame had to cut the project due to budget problems the city was facing), all of the CPP children were mainstreamed into the public school education. In most cases, this caused a total break down of both schools and child prodigies, with most chidlren's records being fixed as unfailable in the subject of their study in the CPP, in my case- Math, Science and Music. To further this cause, the IGC program was started and all former CPP children were moved into it.
In 1984, the last of the CPP child participants were supposed to have graduated high school.
ICG:
Intellgently Gifted Children's program, created to surplant the CPP when it was cut from the city school systems, where many children from the CPP went into the IGC program. The IGC has under went many name changes and program directives, but it still exists to this day.
The Specailized High Schools
are a national group of high schools where the qualitity of their students and graduates are better than most college students elsewhere. They are the High School Equivelant of Havard, Yale, Oxford, MIT, Berkley-Cal., Columbia and Rutgers Univeristies. To enter into these schools, one must have to take an entrance exam, where the passing grade to enter is about the same as a 1300 on the SAT.
Of these schools, the top three are: Styvesant High School (in New York City), Bronx Science High School (Bronx, NY), and Brooklyn Technical High School (in Brooklyn, NY).
Nearly a million students apply, mostly from the New York City Metro Area; but being part of the city's school systems, a city residency requirement is needed. World-wide many parents move into the city just so that their children can apply and attend the specialized high schools.
Brooklyn Tech is the school I attended from 1978 to 1981, with visiting rights until 1984 while the courts handled my case about my diploma.

Thomas Jefferson Pool and The Pit
are located by First Avenue, in Jefferson Park, where 113th and 114th street are supposed to be. The Pit is one of the City's deepest pools, which has been reconfigured over the years. During my stay there, at was anywhere between 20 and 16 ft deep, and using a gravity and pressure system that allowed the cirrulation of the water in it to the clorination tanks and back, without the use of mechanical or electrical pumps. This does however creates a pressure at the bottom of The Pit to be greater than its actual depth, and a strong suction force at the grating. Only the strongest of swimmers are allowed to dive at The Pit, and the best life guards to man it; during my time there- it was me and 'Teddy Bear'.
