Saving a file as an RTF in OO may cause problems if anyone else is using Word. |
Oh, swell.
Quote: | I have gotten several where the formatting is all screwed up. Spaces between words is messed up as are things like suddenly making random paragraphs all in bold. Saving in straight DOC format does he same. But saving in Word XP DOC does not have the problem, neither does the default ODT. |
I added a couple of things to the list I keep at the top of the chapter, sort of a checklist of what I want to use in The Story. When I hit Ctrl/S it gave me the option to save in ODT or keep what I had, and I told it to keep what I have.

Okay, I'll try to remember that, thanks! Racky, you make sure I remember!

Best exuse I know of then not to use 'em
(wait, they still make WordPerfect???) |

Last week I wnated to convert one of my stories from html to rtf so I could upload it to FA in something other than plaintext.
First I tried loading the html file in MSWord and using Save As... to save it as an rtf file. I immediately noticed the file was 50K (from an html file that was originally 5K). Then I browsed the resulting rtf file in Notepad. OMG! That was the most bloated rtf encoding I've ever seen (not that I've looked at a lot of it, mind you, but...) I think I had to scroll down several times before I spotted anything that I recognized as part of the story text.
Then I opened the original html file in Firefox, cut-and-pasted it into Wordpad, and used Save As... to save it as an rtf file. The resulting rtf file was only 5K and looked much cleaner when browsed with Notepad. And it looked just as good in Wordpad (after closing and reopening) as the 50K file. _________________ mwalimu

Hey guys. Just letting you know I haven't abandoned the stories over here at PF, I just got into rabidly reading Metamor Keep this past spring and am nearing the current end of their posted stories.
I'll get back to more frequent checking of PF stories (and my usual webcomics) when I reach #460 of MK. Just finished a 600k+ word one tonight... WHEW!! What a ride! _________________ "Cogito, ergo es. I think, therefore you is." Ray D. Tutto (King of the Moon) to Baron Munschaussen |

Hey Chris, just a reminder. I get leave here late Feb. Counting decompression in Kuwait, I should be boot's on ground" stateside around the first of March.
.
.
.
I have your address.
Just pulling your leg big guy. Although, my wife and I have kicked around the idea of me taking an extra week or so to decompress stateside and maybe to see some folk. I've debated dropping the MRE box by yun's myself rather than trusting my fearless post office. Who knows. _________________ "Liven a dream, Oh you're on top. My mind is aching, oh it won't stop.
