Oh that captain! I love the captain.
That Mr. Greenjeans was dumber than a box of rocks. I remember one day he was pounding nails into a post holding up the roof over Captain Kangaroo's front porch. He'd pick up a nail then throw it away, pick up another and use it, pick up a third and throw it away, etc.
The captain saw what he was doing and asked why he was throwing away half his nails.
So Mr. Greenjeans held up a nail and said, "Look at this one. The head is toward the post. It's backwards." He threw that nail away. Then he picked up another nail and held it up for the captain to see. "This one," he said, "has the pointy end toward the post, so I can use it." And he proceeded to pound that nail into the post.
The captain just shook his head.
And then there was the rubber tree plant song.
