NOW, I am entirely sure that we are a forum made up of mature people. Mature enough to agree to disagree on politics, with our opinions firmly grounded in intelligent reason. Right?

So NO flaming in this thread.

Now, to the topic-

It seems to me that the American presidential election for this coming term will be between McCain and Obama.

Whom would you vote for, and why would you vote for them?

Let us not forget the Libertarian hopeful Bob Barr.

That's who I'll probably be voting for. Either him, or Mickey Mouse. The two major party candidates are so bad that the only positive statement I can make is that they are outstanding bad examples.

Anyone ever heard of the comedian/vantriliqist Jeff Dunham? He has put out a couple videos about his character "Walter" is running for president of the USA. He looks better than any other option!

Forwarning: Walter is a grumpy old man who doesn't much care who he offends and he does occasionally cus, so don't listen too loud at work.

Unfortunate truth.

IMHO it doesn't really matter even if the gym sock won if it's in to politics it will screw us any way it can. This is why I don't vote (yeah I know and all dirty looks and shame on you remarks will be vigilantly ignored) I can't see spending my time to go down and vote for some one to stick it to me, it's like choosing to see who gets to ram a baseball bat with rusty spikes up my ass; well no thank you that's not a choice I want to make. And for those of you who say I don't have a right to complain I say Bull Pucky I have every bit as much right as anyone else, maybe more. If enough people decided not to vote it would send an undeniable maeesge that REAL change is needed!

I agree with that. Many people say I'm not American because I won't vote. But hey, maybe we should ALL not vote for one cycle.

Then possibly, we'll truly reveal the corruption to those whom believe there is none. And send a real message to rich fat politicians.

That sentence is incorrect sir.

By not voting you do not surrender any rights, any rights at all. As an American you still have every right to raise your voice. As a HUMAN being you still have the right to raise your voice.

Freedom of speech has nothing to do with whether or not you vote.

Over all you make a very valid point, but you shouldn't have included that sentence.

Besides, the Republican or the Democrat would still win. Votes from deceased people, electoral college, etc.

And thats why we all vote but we write in something different such as Walter, or the old standby (and I remember my Dad writing this one in when I was a little kid and the candidates were horrible) Garfield, as in the cat.

I'm not going to vote because I particularly care for one candidate or another. I'm not going to vote because I consider myself republican or democrat. I'm not going to vote because I have confidence in the next 4 years of American government.

I *am* going to vote because of the following reasons:

-More than 200 years ago, men much like me (young, married, with children) felt it was important enough to suffer, fight, bleed, and die to win the revolutionary war, so that I could have the freedom to vote.
-People have struggled, suffered poverty, persecution, mob violence, lynching, and property destruction in order to give me the freedom to make a mark on a ballot.
-Men and Women have fought, suffered, and died in various wars throughout the lifetime of this nation to ensure that my right to "punch the ticket" remains in force.

So much blood, sweat, strength, tears, and life have been spent to give me the right to vote. If I were to choose not to vote, it would be a serious dishonor to the sacrifices made by those who have gone before me.

I can get behind that Teric, it's well spoken and is a very valid point. However, I cannot bring myself to vote for another power hungry criminal.
