Well, that took MUCH longer than they promised. But I can pick up my PowerBook tomorrow. Yay. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

So much for the PowerBook... goodbye, old friend! You served me faithfully.
Hello 15" MacBook Pro. You don't sound quite as cool, but damn, that's a NICE screen! _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Dead laptop...
Let us have a moment of silence for its passing.
...
But yeah, it's NICE to have such a big screen on a laptop. _________________ Styx: "Oh sure like flaming a dragon going to do massive damage, brave challenge there Teric." |

Indeed, it is. I would actually preferred to have a smaller one, but the only smaller ones Apple offers don't quite have the power I was looking for.
On the bright side, it means that I can play all the new games now *is actually looking forward to Starcraft II now* _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

I never quite got into the Diablo series myself. Not my kind of game, I guess. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

That was without a doubt the most stressful journey I ever had... I'll tell you about it later.
For now... Hello Minneapolis, hello USA! I'm back!!! _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Well, I said I would tell you about it, and although I doubt that anyone actually wants to know, I shall do so.
One thing before I start, the flights themselves where alright. Not the best ones I had, but by no means bad. The thing that made this journey so damn stressful were *drumroll* the delays.
I'm a pretty patient guy and I always bring loads of stuff to entertain myself my with me, from books over music to portable consoles to my computer. However, this time I barely got to use any of them in the first place.
Let's start off at the start. I arrived at the airport in Hannover with plenty of time to spare, and that's how it should be, so no downside there. The first delays came with the takeoff. I can't quite remember what caused the delay but we left about 15 minutes late. Not to bad, actually, but I had only 1 hour in Frankfurt to change planes. So, I was already a bit nervous, but fortunately I didn't have to change terminals and we arrived with enough time.
But the delays continued. Again, I can't remember what it was but the plane to Chicago left Frankfurt almost an hour late. That got me VERY nervous since in Chicago I not only had to go through passport control and customs, I had to change terminals, go through security and do that all within 2 hours. That is, two hours originally. Now, with the delays adding up it was less than an hour.
Now, if I wouldn't be able to get to the plane to Minneapolis they said they would simply change me to a later flighty, so it wouldn't be THAT bad, but still inconvenient, especially since I would have to let Pflarrian know that I wouldn't be on the plane he expected me to be.
I arrived in Chicago more than the predicted hour late. Passport control, being what it is, took over half an hour (not the control itself, of course, 28 minutes of that was standing in line) but at least I got my suitcase right away and the guys at customs weren't interested in me either. So, on to see what could be done with my flight. At that time it was about 5:15 pm with my supposed to have left at 5:05 pm but low and behold, it was delayed. They said if I really hurried I could still get it so I left my suitcase with them and dashed off. Took the train, changed terminals, spend another 15 minutes at the security check and actually still got to my flight, which was delayed by an hour.
So, in the end in arrived in Minneapolis an hour late and despite my inability to let Pflarr know (since I spent most of my time in Chicago either running or waiting in line, what makes it hard to make phonecalls) he wasn't too worried, since the delay of the plane naturally was announced at the airport in Minneapolis.
So, I was left rather exhausted and very annoyed, which only increased since with all the delays my suitcase didn't make it on the same plane as me and arrived the morning after, but otherwise the vacation has been MUCH better so far, and I don't expect it to change.
I'm kinda curious to see how the journey back will be, but I have until the 20th to not actually care much _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Well, the 20th is upon us. I don't want to leave... I really don't.
I was a great month! My thanks go to Pflarrian and his wife for being such awesome hosts. I do hope something like this can happen again some time next year, maybe around the time of a con.
Well, off to bed for me. Got about 18 hours of travel time to look forward to _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

I am beginning to believe in karma. As much as the flight to the US was stressful the flight back was smooth as a walk on the beach. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Well, I am going to follow Mike's example.
At least partly.
I shall shift my attention from Planetfurry to Fur-Haven. That isn't really going to mean much, since I haven't done very much around here anyway, but the little that I did will get much more little.
I had thought about this before. Planetfurry has changed. Such things happen and usually there is nothing one can do about it, but that doesn't change the fact that this is not the Planetfurry that I knew and loved. Recent events have only given me the last push.
I'm not going to delete my stuff here, in case things change and because I do like to read through old posts. I'm nostalgic that way.
So, goodbye, Planetfurry. I'll look in now and then.
All the Best
