Hello all!
Just ran into a problem today and wanted to know if anyone else has had this come up. A friend wanted to do something today, when I had already been planning to get some writing in. I try not to make a big show of things, and not to show off, when I'm trying to do some writing. I definitely do not want to be super dramatic about how I just have to write and just can not be interrupted ... but at the same time, when I really want to do some writing, non-artists don't seem to understand the need to just sit down and make your art. My friend seemed to be somewhat understanding, but still could not fully understand why I'd want to sit here and write instead of going out and doing stuff.
Just needed that off my furry chest, thanks! |

i've had that seveal times.
and the best that i can say is, your friend isn't you. he'll/she'll have diffrent prioritys than you.
my best friend won't read a book in he's free time to save his life. so he can't see how i can spend mine "doodaling notes in that school pad".
it's not that he hates books and he will read what he's intrested in but he see's fiction, sic-fi, and the like as nothing more than fanticy, something that he dosn't indulge himself in.
so i had to go about "tricking" him. in to seeing it another way that he can relate to.
i found something that for him is very relaxing, somthing that he likes to do all by himself, and related that that is what writing is like for me. so now when ever he calls and i say "i'm writing" he thinks of it as my need to be alone for a little wile to destress.
now i'm not saying this will work for you or all the time but it's what i do. _________________ to each their own

It's all about priorities. In the end it's your life, and happiness requires that it be lived as _you_ choose to live it. |

You could always have phun with euphemisms. One of my favorites:
"Aw, sorry dude! An old friend I haven't seen in a while dropped in unexpectedly and we really need to catch up on things."
I don't bring up that my "old friend" is my writing muse. _________________ "The only people who never fail are the ones who never try to accomplish anything." ~ My Grandfather |
