Chapter 10: Hell On Earth.

In the three days since their arrival nothing had happened, they were not even taken on a tour. In fact they didn’t even see Mother’s twin; it was most peculiar. That didn’t stop Lyja from sneaking about at night though. The doors to their suite were left open, as Mother explained after the first night that she had a bit of claustrophobia and that strange places only amplified the situation. A major lie but it allowed for Lyja to leave the room undetected, the scanners may not be able to see her but they surely would notice a door being opened by no one.

The fourth day ended with a different result, Lyja came out of the bathroom; after materializing. She didn’t say very much only, “Tomorrow we will talk.”

The next day they took a long walk out to that large tree they had frequently sat beneath. They sat quiet for a long while, Mother knew that Lyja would speak when she wanted to, it was only a matter of time. A little while later she was proved right.

Lyja cleared her throat before speaking, “I saw things last night that I wish I hadn’t. Things that were alive but not, things that should not exist but they do.”

Mother looked over at Lyja, “I had my suspicions; the experiments we have met indicated this. You cannot do what she did in one single try. Could you discern what they were?” Mother knew this was unpleasant for her but she needed to know what she had seen.

Lyja could remember their eyes looking right at her as if they could see her and it unnerved her. “A lot of them seemed to be of the black and white creature but there were many of what seemed to be like this Other.”

Mother banged her fist into her paw. “Damn, she is trying to clone herself!! I gave up on that only after the first few experiments; it was obvious that it was not going to work. It seems she is a lot more determined than I ever was.”

“But these things are alive!!”

Mother could see the terror in her eyes, “Perhaps in someway Lyja but not as you and I know it.” She sighed, “We must stop her, if we can.” It was an extreme possibility that they would be able to, with the guards she had surrounding her. “She has not contacted us, which means she is watching us closely, trying to figure us out. It shouldn’t be too long that she’ll want to question me about why I am here and about her origin. Which I’m not sure if she’s going to accept; if the situation were reversed I wouldn’t believe it.”

“So what will happen after you tell her, you said that the information was vital to our safety.”

“I have thought about that a lot and it still comes down to putting your life in danger and ending with my capture.”

“Will this stop her?”

“It might but it depends on one crucial detail.” Mother rubbed her abdomen as Alison moved within her.

They returned to their room and from there decided that they would head to the cafeteria for lunch. The meals there were delicious. As they were about to leave two large furs entered their room, both were dressed in fine suits; seems that the other finally wanted to see her. “The mistress wishes to see you.” One of them said.

“OK Lyja looks like we’re up.” Mother said as she began to walk towards the door.

“Ahem...only you.” He pointed to Mother. “The other must stay.” The fur spoke.

Mother didn’t expect this, “We were about to go for lunch, surely she can go there.”

The two furs looked at each other, “I will escort your friend there, my officer here will take you to the mistress.”

“OK, lead the way.” Mother had concerns about Lyja’s safety but she was sure if she felt extremely threatened she would find a way out of this place. They had a little chat about if things went wrong and now it seems things were sliding that way.

She was taken to a smaller room other than that huge room where they had first met. The room had a small desk with several computers on it. Her other sat upon the desk’s top looking quite agitated but mother remained calm, for now the ball was in her park; she held all the information this one wanted.

“Leave us.” She said to the guard and promptly they were alone.

“Nice to see you again.” Mother said trying to set a level of conversation although Mother knew that the mood had already been set.

“You lied to me.” The other huffed.

“Oh?”

“Your companion can disappear quite well, so well in fact that nothing we have here can detect her. Hell she doesn’t even leave depressions in carpet!!!!!!!!!”

Mother raised an eyebrow and cursed inside, Lyja’s cover was blown; the game had changed again. She decided to act innocent. “I’m not sure what you mean?”

“Oh, come on!!” The other threw up her hands, “Watch this!!” Her other got off the desk and picked up a remote that was beside her. She pointed it at a monitor to her right, a surveillance camera tape began to play. The scene was obviously the bathroom in their room and in a moment Lyja walked in. She drew water in the tub then promptly disappeared. The other stood in disbelief, “I couldn’t believe the tape, we checked it for tampering but it’s valid. We replaced the camera with different ones, infra red, heat, nothing. When your mate disappears, she disappears!!!! Nothing in this whole building can detect her movement and I want to know how you did it?” The other snarled in anger.

Mother turned her attention away from the video, “I didn’t do anything, it’s her nature.” She said softly, which in all honesty was the truth. Although the real reason had yet to be revealed but she was sure that this other wouldn’t believe her; she wouldn’t in her place.

The other looked puzzled, “You’re saying you didn’t create her.”

“Correct.” She answered again truthfully.

“Then what is she?”

She thought for a moment then answered, “An assassin sent here with me to kill you.” Mother lied but she thought this might be their best bet for survival.

The other sat down and thought about this, “It makes sense, she was observing me, awaiting time to strike?”

“That and I needed to know things about this place that you weren’t about to reveal to me. Like how you are trying to clone yourself and the failed attempts at your soldiers.”

The other looked surprised by that information, “She followed me there?”

“Yes.”

There was a slight pause before the other responded, “You are correct about my attempts, cloning myself has been a futile attempt but I will continue to try. These devices must be able to duplicate my body as they have with the skunk.”

“Devices?” Mother said in question.

“The micro machines that run through my body and that of the clones, don’t act like you don’t know about them.”

“I’m just trying to gain information about how much you know, although it seems you have a better knowledge of them than I ever did. My experiments failed, in every way.”

“Not entirely, they still live!” She smiled, “That’s not failure in my book.”

Mother suspicions became reality, the other knew about the surviving clones and where they were, this made her even more dangerous. “Ah... so you know.”

“I know a lot, all coming from your notes and surveillance. A giant skunk is not hard to find when you are looking for one. Now you know what I want, I have a lot of questions and I’m sure you hold most of the answers.”

“I guess, what is it you really want to know?” Mother said calmly.

There was silence for what seemed an eternity, then the other spoke, “I’m sure you know of my origin, what am I?”

Mother knew that question was coming but the answer was something that even she wasn’t prepared for. “Oh, now there is a question... do you really want to know because you really won’t like the answer, I don’t.”

“Tell me!!!” The other shouted.

“OK, I warned you.” She paused for a moment then continued, “You and I are both clones.”

“What!!” The other said in surprise.

“Clones, tell me how far back can you remember?” She waited to see what type of answer she got.

The other was silent for awhile then answered, “My clear memories are of when I awoke in Brazil in the 1800’s but there are other memories, ones I do not understand.”

“Those are memories of our prior lives.”

“Prior lives?” The other said in question, not really understanding what or how this fit into the whole picture.

“Seems I’ll have to go back to the beginning, our” she stressed our to show that she was not the only one in this, “origin I guess.” She took a deep breath, “Around 60,000 years ago a ship from another planet arrived here with a group of scientists eager to study this primitive planet. Well it seems they were a little too eager and didn’t scan this planet enough for possible hostile life forms. Well, they were attacked and most of the crew were killed save two, both were incredibly injured but during the attack they managed to wound the creature.” She paused, “You have to know something about these aliens at this stage of their social structure, to do harm to this creature was an atrocity to their beliefs and if there was hope of saving the creature they had to fix the damage they caused. So, one of the remaining scientists had a plan to do just that. It removed a stasis pod from the alien craft and set the wounded creature within it, programming it to heal the creature the best it could then to free it. After the creature was safely away the pod would self destruct. All was set and the remaining aliens left to return home for immediate medical attention.”

The other interrupted her, “So they left, not making sure that the creature returned to its natural environment.”

“Yes, and so sets up the problem, the creature recovered but the scientist made a mistake in his programming of the pod. It could not release the creature and so it sat for countless years not doing anything, until its circuits began to deteriorate and it found an alternate route for saving this being. It created a copy outside of its environment.” The others eyebrows rose but motioned for her to continue. “These copies of the creature failed initially, they did not leave the presence of the cave and soon died. They lacked something that the pod was missing, so it did something that was again outside of its original programming. It downloaded a modified version of itself to the mind of the creature. This proved to be a success and the creature left the cave, again a problem arose. In doing this the pod created a loop, the consciousness of the creature was forever linked to the pod and whenever the creature died a new download occurred starting the process over and over again.” Mother sat quiet for awhile, allowing the other to grasp this.

She almost laughed but stifled it, “Let me get this straight you’re telling me that I’m some out dated computer program?”

“Out dated is the tip of the iceberg. More like compiled incorrectly, don’t worry, I am the same or was.”

“What do you mean?”

“As each creature died it brought back its own memories and that data continued to be compiled onto the next creature. It learned, became extremely intelligent, then things began to go wrong over the centuries. The data files began to collapse, overlap and in some cases get completely destroyed. Aspects of the creature changed, in some cases the creature was docile, others extremely violent and in our case insane.”
Mother didn’t change her expression as she said the last word.

The other blinked, “You think me insane.”

“Yes, neither of us had compassion for anything, everything we did was for our own gratification. Anyone getting in our way was disposed of; never fearing consequences. We are psychotic and you can argue all you want with me but it is the truth. Any professional psychiatrist could easily tell you.”

The other stood up, “So in the end this pod spit both of us out, damaged, with memories of former lives jumbled all in our heads just because it was malfunctioning.”

“Yes, although that is no longer the case.”

“Oh...there is more to this ludicrous tale?”

“I warned you in the beginning.”

“Oh I know, go on I want to hear the rest.” She leaned against the wall and listened.

“Time passed, many versions of the creature or us were created and the trail of sorts leads eventually to us. Seems the pod malfunctioned twice letting two versions out at the same time. Why I could not sense you but you could me is beyond what I know. My tale now turns back to our alien friends, seems that these creatures inhabit a different part of the universe, you might even call it a different dimension where time moves slower for them than us. The ship took 60,000 of our years to cross into their space but for them only a 1000 years of their time had passed. They found the scientists and the records of their journey and the mistake that had taken place. They decided that our planet had to be looked at for contamination of their technology. They understood the difference of the time frame and so arrived here not too long ago. In arriving they found the pod and to their surprise found me attached to it psychically. They severed the connection which caused me great pain.” The other motioned with her paw for Mother to stop.

“I felt that as well. After that I could not sense you.”

“I couldn’t do a lot after that either, it took a lot out of me. As you probably saw they came for me and took me away and did their best to restore me to what would be normalcy.”

“But they sent you back.”

“Yes but not permanently. Essentially I was to clean up my experiments and destroy anything that had to do with their technology. So to keep me in line and to deal with any problem, like you, they sent Lyja. Who as I told you is a master at executions.”

“Hmmm, that is a pretty unbelievable tale.”

“Think about it, those machines that run through our blood are not of this world, it was probably the only way the pod could actually accomplish what it did.”

The other walked around the chair that Mother sat in, in one quick motion the others paw was wrapped around her throat. “What do you think I am, an idiot!!! This tale of yours is fabricated nonsense. Now tell me of my real origin.”

Mother could hardly get the words out, “You...” cough “have been given the truth.”

“YOU LIE!!!!” The creatures grip tightened, Mother knew if she didn’t act they would die right here and now. She managed to get her small paw up to the others face and scratch quickly across one of its eyes. The other roared in pain and released Mother from her death grip. Mother tried to hop out of the chair but she was not fast enough as the other drove her arm into her back and sent her flying across the room. She tried to get up but something cracked in her back as she tried to move. The pain was excruciating but she realized something at that moment in time. It was a scent that triggered this thought, “You’re dying.” She moaned.

The creature came over and kicked her a couple of times then bent down and pulled on Mother’s short muzzle lining up her face to hers. “Yes you bitch!!! In concealing the truth from me where do you think it will get you!!! In your small body is the secret to immortality and I will get it from you; not this nonsense you have babbling about.” She threw mothers head back against the floor, with great hostility.

Mother lay there in agony hurting from almost every part of her body and just before she lapsed into unconsciousness she heard the other giving the order for her guards to eliminate Lyja.

Lyja’s escorts opened the door for her and let her into her suite. Soon they were gone and Lyja thought back to the meal as she licked the sides of her mouth getting slight remnants of her feast. She sat on the bed and rubbed her tummy, she hoped that she would be able to eat something later, it was so delicious. As she sat there things settled and it was again time to hit the privacy of the bathroom.

As she got up to move the door flew open surprising Lyja, two small items were thrown into the room. Who threw them Lyja couldn’t see but she guessed that this was not a friendly invitation of any sorts. She ran to the bathroom just escaping the explosion that followed. The room came down upon her, smoke and debris were everywhere; she only hoped her talent would keep her out of sight. She stayed close to the floor hoping that anyone searching or firing weapons would not choose the ground as a target.

Two taurs entered cautiously into the room, it was in a shambles and debris hung from the walls and ceilings. The explosion had now exposed the room to the outside, they hoped that their quarry had not escaped. One moved to guard the new exit in the wall while the other searched what was left of the room. “Mistress says this one can disappear, it is likely that it is still here hiding.” One said to Two.

“Most likely.”

“You cannot escape.” One said to what seemed to be an empty room.

Lyja shivered under the plaster and the wood, a nail had embedded itself in her side, it hurt like hell. She did not move though for fear of them finding her. These creatures had to be bent on her destruction using that much force, surrendering now would be instant death. If she hid she had a chance.

Two moved debris aside but could see no sign of the intruder, she was most disappointed. She discharged the weapon she had, into the room trying to flush out this intruder. It didn’t work, nothing moved; it was useless the creature was gone. She didn’t like to report their failure, she clicked the radio, “Two to base.”

“Base here.”

“Subject presumed escaped, no body found.”

There was a pause, “Understood, clean up best you can and seal room. Return to base for further instructions.”

“Affirmative.” Two looked at the room and sighed, what a mess.

Lyja decided to make a move, she hurt but it was necessary, this would be dangerous but it had to be done. To her right was some debris hanging from the ceiling, it wasn’t going to take much for it to come down; she pulled and down it came with a tremendous crash.

Two heard the crash and let a spray of bullets into the room, the dust from the falling ceiling was filling the room. She really couldn’t see anything at all.

“STOP SHOOTING!!!” One shouted. The hail of bullets came to an abrupt stop. The dust settled and Two looked back into the room to see that the ceiling had collapsed. “Damn!!!”

“What?” One said in question.

“It was just the ceiling collapsing.”

One didn’t say anything, just moved off towards the door, “I’m going to get some security tape to rope off the area and to alert maintenance that they are going to have to clean up.”

“Right.”

“I will be back.” One stepped out, not knowing that she was being followed by one small alien being.

Lyja hurt all over, the debris that came down on her was heavy, adding to all that was the nail that had torn into her flesh. She needed somewhere to rest, the lay out of the compound came back to her due to her little ventures and she knew of a storage shed. The door to it was opened a lot but there were hundreds of boxes in there; she could easily hide behind them in plain site and relax. She left the powerful giant very soon as she had left the room and found her way to the shed. It was a fair distance away, she only hoped she had the strength, Mother was right this other was insane; she had made her move. Now she had to think of what she could do, Mother had told her to leave and not return, “it was for the best” she had said. That was unthinkable, this creature was dangerous, to everyone on this planet. Even if she did leave there was nowhere for her to go. Well she could go back to the apartment but the only thing there was the communicator and she had already sent a message. Behind the boxes she let down her aura and she rematerialized to the world. For the first time she could see that her blood covered her arm all the way down. This wasn’t good, not good at all.

Alison awoke confused and hurting from almost every muscle imaginable, “Aaagh.” She moaned as she sat up, her back cracked and snapped like someone a hundred years old. Looking around she saw she was still in the same room as they were moments or hours ago. She wasn’t sure how long it had been, long enough to do the transfer though. She tried to get Mother but she didn’t respond, probably unconscious Alison thought. The one thing for sure the Other was not here, she guessed the doors were probably locked; preventing their escape. She rose slowly, checking to make sure nothing was broken, the other had kicked quite hard, not really holding anything back. It wanted her secret, the secret to immortality, she was to be disappointed, that ship had sailed, no longer available.

Alison stretched and moved about, she was stiff and hurt but nothing seemed to be out of place. She went to the window to see if it could be opened but there were no latches. For just curiosity sake she tried the door knobs; locked. They were trapped, now what, she thought and what of Lyja; she had a better chance of escaping but was it enough. Alison walked around getting what kinks she could out of her body and trying to think of a way out of this mess. This creature did not believe a word of what Mother had told her, so much for rational thinking. Although when you really think about it; it does sound really crazy. In the end they were in trouble, so much so that getting out alive would be a miracle.

The only thing she could do was to wait for this thing to return and spell out their fate. Trying to stall this thing might be their only hope, she wondered if Mother knew enough about the micro machines to try and bluff their way through; at least for a time.

It was a long time before the doors opened, it wasn’t the creature that greeted her though. It was one of the taur giants. “Well this is awkward.” It said.

“Cassandra?” Alison questioned.

“Yes, I was told that you are being detained due to the fact that you tried to assassinate my mistress.” Cassandra sounded very confused.

Cassandra just might be a light at the end of the tunnel Alison thought, “I would say that is a stretch of some truth, which I will explain to you if you’d like to listen.”

“Sure, you know how much time I have on my paws.” She smiled and Alison smiled back, maybe she could trust this one, then again... she wasn’t really sure. Time would tell if this turned out to be the case.

Cassandra seemed to absorb the information that Alison told her although she had a lot of questions. She left out a lot of details but in the end Alison wasn’t too sure she really understood it all. Maybe she should have just kept her mouth shut.

“So my mistress is a clone of sorts and you’re here to take her back to another planet?”

“Yes Cassandra that’s the short form of it, we had no idea she existed till we arrived back here, she is dangerous to herself and the rest of this planet.”

She sat there quiet for awhile, “The mistress has been tough on us but she said we have to be strong; the coming years she said would be hard.”

“Yes if she has her way, she wants to rule this planet and you are her soldiers.”

Cassandra didn’t really like the idea that she had been lied to, basically all her life. Although her life has been relatively short it still was all a lie. “How can I help you?”

“I don’t know if there is much you can do. Your sisters I’m sure were dispatched to kill my...mate. As I told you she has that talent for disappearing.”

“Yes you mentioned that, it’s very hard to believe she can do that. I will see if I can find her, if she still lives; I hate to say it but my sisters One and Two are pretty efficient.”

“So we saw.” Alison knew that if Cassandra did find Lyja she would have no idea that she was helping them. There had to be a trust word or something that would alert her that Cassandra had spoken to her. “If you find Lyja she will not trust you, tell her you spoke to Alison. That should convince her to trust you.”

“Just that I spoke with Alison, Uh...OK but what does that mean?”

“I will explain later, that’s if...uhm... I survive.”

“I will find your friend and I will find out what is going on.” Cassandra said with great concern.

“Cassandra be careful, I’m not sure how stable your Mistress is, she could turn on you as well.”

Cassandra hadn’t really thought of that, “I will be careful. Thanks.”

Cassandra left the room and Alison could hear her locking the doors once again. Alone she pondered their fate, what was going to happen. It was then she heard a familiar voice in her head.

“We live?” Mother commented.

“For the moment, it seems we still hold some value to your Other self.”

“Yeah, she thinks she can live forever! Boy is she in for a disappointment. How are you fairing?”

“I ache all over but we’ll live, I take it you just woke up?”

“Yes, has something happened?”

Alison filled Mother in on what had transpired while she was resting. This whole Cassandra thing had her a bit worried and she wondered what Mother thought. It took her awhile to explain but it was something to pass the time away. She wondered if the Other had watched her talk with Cassandra but that was something she couldn’t control now anyway. “So are we screwed?” She didn’t want to use that word but it seemed the best description for the current situation.

“Interesting choice of words.”

“Well I think they best describe this mess.”

“You are so right.” Mother thought back.

The Sun was setting Cassandra noted and from her conversation with One and Two they had not found Lyja. That was good Cassandra thought, they both had assumed that since they didn’t find a body in the room then she still lived. It made sense, since Lyja had this uncanny power to elude all forms of tracking devices while invisible. One and Two headed for the other side of the University while Cassandra continued onward searching the grounds. She tried to put herself in this others place, where would she hide. Somewhere where she could remain concealed but perhaps not be invisible. There was a big storage shed not too far from here. “Hmmmm.” She thought.

The shed was full of boxes almost piled to the ceiling on both sides, easy for this creature to hide. The inside had low tech cameras, just video and only fixed on the doors, basically seeing who entered and who’ left. The rest of the building really didn’t have security. She walked in slowly but intentionally making noise so as to alert her quarry. “Hello,” She said softly, “I have talked with Alison, the small one said you would know what that meant.” She continued to speak to no avail, there seemed to be no one here. She exited the building and walked away. She would have to think of somewhere else, then she heard it a whisper in her ear. “I am with you.”

Cassandra was amazed, she couldn’t see or even smell this creature, yet it was here. “I still have to search for you.” She said quietly.

“Do so, I will not leave your presence.” The voice whispered.

“How?” She tried to ask but got no answer in reply. She met up with One and Two again while she did her patrol, they hadn’t found anything out of the ordinary. She told them she was going to bed and that she would look again in the morning; they nodded and took off. Where she slept was not connected to the University, it was more of a barn off by itself. There seemed to be no cameras and what lighting there was sparse. Lyja slid into the shadows and rematerialized.

Cassandra jumped at seeing the small creature. “Yow!!! You scared the daylights out of me.” She watched as Lyja made hand gestures indicating if there were cameras. “Nope this is just a temporary sleeping quarters for many here, some place to lay your head. There are several stalls if you want to call them and they bring animals in out as they see fit. It’s not a security issue here.”

“Good then I can relax a bit.” Lyja said.

It was then Cassandra saw that Lyja was hurt. “Those are blood stains on your arm aren’t they?”

“Yes.”

“Let me take a look.” Lyja obliged, “Ooh nasty, I can clean this up, come with me.” She lead Lyja to the bathroom, which she found huge; she felt really small in this place. Cassandra was able to clean the wound and dress it. “There, still going to hurt but it shouldn’t get infected.”

“Thank you, I hope it doesn’t either.” After this she thought, if she survived that is, she was going to have to have a full check up.

Cassandra had marveled when she saw her the first time and she still did now, “You’re a strange one, you must have had a heck of a time keeping up with me.”

“How do you mean?”

“Well you being so small, I don’t travel slow, I’m sure you had a time catching up to me.”

“Well I was on your back the whole time so it didn’t make a difference.” Lyja smiled.

“What?” Cassandra said in complete surprise, “I didn’t feel a thing, that’s impossible.”

“Not really, it’s part of my nature, I don’t affect things around me and things that I hold or have on blend with me or the surroundings. It’s very complex and even our science really cannot tell how I do these things. I am the only one of my kind that they or I know of.”

“That is an interesting story.” She paused to sit, “Your companion said that you are an alien from another planet, is that right?” Cassandra looked for anything that might confirm this, a nod, she was really hoping that she would give an answer.

“My companion spoke the truth, I am not from this planet.”

Cassandra’s heart beat a bit faster, a real live alien and she got to meet her first. “I’m glad to be able to help you.”

“Well I and my companion are thankful that someone is on our side here, we knew that this was a dangerous mission to begin with, now it’s one of life or death.”

Cassandra had been skeptical of what this other had told her but the room, explosives, the training it was adding up fast and she didn’t like that. “I think it’s time we rested, my head will feel better in the morning, there has been a lot happening and I have a lot to think about.”

“That’s understandable.” Lyja commented softly, “I’ll sleep over here in the corner in the shadows in case we have visitors in the morning.”

“I doubt that will happen but it’s still a good precaution.” Cassandra stretched out her limbs and then headed into what was her bedroom, “Night...ah your name again is?”

“Lyja.”

“Good-night Lyja.”

Lyja could feel the ground tremble as the big taur plopped herself down, she was a mighty creature to behold and very intimidating when standing beside her. It seemed they had found an ally in the mass of confusion. In the morning she would ask Cassandra to take her where she thinks her mistress would take Mother. She figured it would be that lab she visited, a place she really didn’t want to go again but it seemed the best place to start.

The morning brought Mother to control again, they had been kept in that room all night. It brought on another feeling, one that was very uncomfortable. Her ears perked up with the sound of the locks being turned, then the door opened. A large tiger stood in the door way, he just motioned for her to exit. “You are to accompany me.”

“Sure but I need a bathroom right away or there is going to be a mess for someone to clean up.” Mother said sharply.

“There is one close by, I will of course have to enter with you.”

At this point Mother didn’t care if he watched. “Lead on.”

After their brief stop they continued for a short time till Mother had to stop, she hurt too much. What ever that bitch had done, had hurt her more than she had thought. “I cannot walk any further.” She told the tiger, “You are going to have to get me some transportation.” She collapsed onto the floor and rested her back against the wall, there was no way she could continue. She watched from the floor as the tiger requested a wheelchair through his two way mike. In a few minutes one arrived, she crawled more or less into it with no help from the tiger. She grumbled under her breath for she hurt like hell, she needed pain medication. Everything hurt, she didn’t really know how Alison coped, this probably explained why she was asleep now; it had taken its toll on her. It was possible that they might make it out of this situation but only if they were extremely lucky.

End Of Chapter 10

When it rains it pours.

events are closing near and the mistresses plans are soon taking effect. But one question, since both of them are clones (mother and the mistress) clones can go for so long before a error a occurs. With the DNA being manipulated several times, their should be a margin of blunder sooner or later in the mistress. But something tells me that she is going to get her just desserts. The other question is, could Kathren be able to fight one of these large skunktaur creatures like one and two? Great story Cheetaur, certainly one that grabs my attention and still holding my interest greater then ever. Thanks again and take care

Wink

Well this was a breath of fresh air i really needed.

I have seen readership decline and well that is partially my fault...well probably more like all my fault. I've let updates lapse into obscurity, which really is unexceptable.

I'd had hoped in reality to have S4 done by now, it was supposed to be a follow up and a short story. It was created just to fill in the gaps to let the readers know exactly what happened to all the characters whom you have come to love. Things sort of snowballed with an ambitious plot and well here we have S4 the longer version.

I'm proud of S4, although its not the best story I have written. Yeah i'll be the first to admit it, S4 has some plot holes and one major blunder that well if i had to do it over again I'd fix but its water under the bridge right now. I won't devulge what that goof was but i feel readers will know.

Now to Foxtaur who has cheered me up to the point of jumping up and down. I really felt so downhearted that even the regulars who had posted in the past hadn't that i almost stopped the story. Yeah it came that far but i'm out of that rut and onto the next chapter.

I will finish this story

Yes the mistress has revealed what she desires but what will she do to get it. Well as Mother has put it, they both are insane in a way, well mother has been fixed but she still isn't 100% yet -she is a work in progress- but the mistress is not anywhere near sane. As for just desserts, keep reading.

Yes she could fight them but she probably lose, Kathren is strong but the twins have had combat training and that in itself is the key. Strength is not always the winning factor in a fight; training is.

Smile

Again I'd like to thank you for the reply it was something i really needed.

Stand by for more story.

Okay I'm really late so whip me with a wet noodle, that said I have to say good chapter Cheets.

Thanks Styx really appreciated.

Bit of a change focusing on one aspect of the story rather then jumping around as in previous chapters, I think I like it.

Well Mothers story and this other had to be told in one session so this was it.

Question: Do you think i should post a synopisis of this story since things have sorta long in the tooth? Just wondering.

I know I really should read the latest chapter....

The main problem is that your story has soo many characters and threads of actions that it's difficult to keep track of them, particularly since many of the characters are clones/alternates of one of the other character. With the long delay between chapters I have simply forgotten too much about the story for the current chapters to make much sense.

I really should sit down and re-read the whole story from the beginning to get back into the swing, but at the moment I don't have enough time / feel like doing it.
I'll get to it eventually, but not right now. Rolling Eyes

Yeah see in the above comment, i kinda touched on that bad move of mine...its entirely my fault....but RL sucks in many cases.

I can understand that completely...

I'll get to it eventually, but not right now.

I'm sure you will, you have been a loyal reader.....Smile I have loved all the comments you have given me. I write because of people like you, you inspire me to do so. Did you want me to send you a synopisis or post one here to help???? I think i could do that.

Thanks for the comments nameless i really appreciate them.

Not a bad idea alittle chapter by chapter summary to help keep track of what's been happening to be kept and updated in a separate thread it can even work as a quick chapter refferance for you to check continuity.

I'm still wondering about Mother/Alison (since they're still swapping conciousness in Mother's body until the eventual birth) and the creature in the cave they were cloned/engineered/whatever from. I don't recall reading enough of a description to identify the species. Are you keeping this a mystery until very near the end or what?

First off thanks AmigaDragon for sticking with the story, its really appreciated.

As for your question, that took a bit of research. So here is an exerpt from S3 that describes the creature that mother is based on.

She is a prehistoric fur, a very effective killing machine. As for a species i really never named one.

Hope this helps Smile

Quote:
She exited the den and stretched, basking in the moonlight. Her breath hung heavy in the air as it settled in front of her, then dispersed. The sun would not rise to bring forth the day for some time yet. Close by the den was her favorite scratching tree. She hurried over to it, putting her back against it and moving up and down and side to side. It was a wondrous feeling. Her mate also scratched her at times but this felt so much better. She remained there for quite awhile not wanting to leave her tiny pleasure in life but knowing she had to. They had not eaten for days and their stomachs were empty. The cubs cried themselves to sleep at night, for she had very little to give them. It was something she found hard to accept, since they had always eaten well. However today she felt that she would be successful. In fact she knew it.

A machine for killing was a good description of her, nine feet in approximate height. A massive head held rows of saber like teeth, ending with two huge fangs dropping down from the upper jaw. Three horns adorned her head, two long curved ones that started from the sides of her skull to end at the sides of her mouth. The other was a broken horn in the middle of her forehead, worn smooth over time. She remembered how her victory in that battle had made her feel alive.

Her paws were huge with retractable razor sharp claws at the tips. A set of shorter claws adorned her knuckles. These did not retract but were extremely hard and sharp. Bony plates armored her forearms almost up to her elbow, for protection in battle. These bony extrusions also protruded from her elbows and knees and were pointed like talons. More plates adorned her chest as well, providing protection of her upper chest but not covering her six breasts. They were more prominent now since she was nursing to try to save her cubs from starving to death. Her fur was of a green hue, allowing her to blend well into the natural surroundings and foliage. If you had to compare today's creatures you would have to say she resembled a giant bipedal cougar. She also had a very thick tail that ended with a combination spike and club.

Her skills as a huntress surpassed many, even her own kind, and in that she was proud. Her kind feared little and ate well but something had changed these last few days. Something was upon the wind, something she didn't know. She raised her muzzle to the air and let her nose find what she could not see. She had prided herself with knowing many scents but this was new, foreign. She followed the scent and it brought her to an outcropping of rocks. From this point she could see well into the valley. In the moonlight it was a splendor seldom seen. The scent intensified and it was heavy with woodburn.

Ok, I guess I missed some of the details when I first read it over a year ago. I was thinking it was a quadruped and you were only taking its POV as a non-sentient animal rather than a sentient being. Are Mother's horns, armor plates and extra (knuckle) claws less prominent or what? A picture of each (or just one if they're very close in appearance, clone rather than engineered evolution) would still be nice if someone has the inclination to do one.
