I thought we were just going for World destruction in any way possible. I like the idea of scouring it clean instead of knocking it off it's orbit. It would give the animals a chance to evolve without human intervention and possibly evolve into furries. And which one of us doesn't want that? _________________ ~Sammie the Pizza Box

Yep. I thought that was the point. How do you rid the planet of its indigenous species without totally destroying it?
Tygon's point is well-conceived though. This is a REAL tightrope act we have going here. Raise or lower the average planetary temperature by 25 degrees C and you have ... well, something that isn't much use to anyone.
Also, once the orbit gets nudged, and becomes unstable, it is only a matter of time until the planet either leaves the solar system, or gets up close and personal with its primary. End of life either way. _________________ Oddly enough, my life is based on a true story. (Ashleigh Brilliant) |

Surely there must be a way? Sure, there might be a few surviviors after the destruction, but humans aren't really able to adapt like animals can, so they would pretty much all die out. There has to be some reason why the snimals would survive and the humans wouldn't. Perhaps some sort of virus? Though that doesn't stay on topic as this thread has to do with physics and big, stupid superships, not biology or anything of the like. _________________ ~Sammie the Pizza Box

Oh, don't be so sure. Humans can survive everywhere on this planet and they are far more adaptable than you give them credit. Mostly through their technology of course but otherwise too. Mostly the will to survive is enough. Even an ELE won't wipe them out so as long as this weapon doesn't destroy ALL life on Earth I'm pretty sure humans WILL survive.

Well, yes, if you want to whipe out humanity without inrisking any other life I think a genetic selective weapon (read: a virus) would be more or less the only way.
Once you are good enough at genetics that wouldn't even be a very difficult thing to so and it would only put a few species of primates, humanity closest realtives in possible danger. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Hey! I never said no to anything other than hatecrimes, or religious discussions. Virii are completely legal here, so are any other biological entity. The only reason religion is forbidden is that we could easily degenerate into some MAJOR arguments, and I kinda like keeping this lighthearted...ya know, laugh as we plan the worlds end.

"As long as it has cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomatoe, bacon, onions, sweet mustard, mayo and ketchup, on a big Kaiser roll, I'm happy. If not, then I'd rather have the chef's salad of doomsday, with the light vinagrette" said Fish to the waitress.

If no one else feels like taking a stab at it, I'll drop a little hint. "Cheating, how to make it work for you at home and on the job." was the name of the short that that was from. It featured a human and two robots sitting in a theater. ^.~ _________________ ~Sammie the Pizza Box

That can only be Mystery Science Theater or however that show was called (never seen it)
However, could we get back to the topic please? _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

It was. You get a cookie, to be picked up from a friend of mine who is living in germany for the next year, starting on the 28th.
A possible idea for a bioengineered virus, could be 'Monkey Business' from the Cowboy Bebop episode "Gateway Shuffle" _________________ ~Sammie the Pizza Box

Well, I still haven't seen Cowboy Bebop so I can't say anything about that.
But all of you who have played Metal Gear Solid (and finished it ) will most likely remember "Fox Die". That's a perfect example. Carried by a host it's spread via air, 100% deadly and can be set to attack only certain types of DNA. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species
