On Thursday evening at around 11:00 PM Eastern Time, I plan on upgrading the MySQL service from version 3.23 to 4.1. This is a significant upgrade in regards to the amount of features that will become available. I have received a few emails requesting that I upgrade MySQL for some of these features, and have finally been able to test to the best of my ability several functions and scripts that are in use on this server successfully.
Due to some of the build options I will use, current applications running on this server should not be expected to have any problems, however some applications will benefit from the upgrade by changing how they access the service.
For example, phpBB has the option to use the base MySQL 3.23 database access layer (mysql), as well as the newer MySQL 4.0+ layer (mysql4). Other applications have similar methods or options, though this of course depends on your application. If you have any questions, please check the documentation of the application in question, or contact your vendor or developer.
Rescheduled: Due to conflicting schedules at work, I have rescheduled the upgrade to Tuesday at 11:00pm. My apologies for the delay.

The upgrade to MySQL 4.1.x has been finished. If your application is able to take advantage of the new version's features, you should be able to use them now. If you are having any trouble with your application that appears to be related to the upgrade, please start an appropriate thread in the Site Problems forum. |
