Yes, something I was forgetting to talk about. From the officials' viewpoint, the time of the kits' birth would appear to rule out Arden being the father assuming the normal gestation period is equal across the various species in the world (among feral (non-anthro) animals, there's a wide range of gestation periods), since he and Sheila were missing so long and he was supposedly killed right away. I'm wondering if the police (FBI, whoever) even thought to compare his DNA to the kits' DNA, that would throw a big question mark into the picture concerning the claimed abduction/captivity timeline.

Is Arden the father? The authorities would currently have to say "no" based on the kits' birth date and the information they have on his death. We however know better and can give a definite "yes" (and the DNA should support it). Some of those other worlds could be running on a different time rate, or something about the travels or the dragon connection could have extended the gestation period. Or the travel from world to world could have even skipped forward to give an apparent (externally) longer gestation, while to Sheila and Arden (since they both carried) it could have appeared normal length. Get on a space ship traveling near the speed of light looping out and back for a subjective 9 months, and externally you would appear to have been pregnant for years.

Unless I'm remembering it wrong, Sheila returns 1 year after disappearing. I thought I mentioned in the story that 9 month pregnancies are normal, so as you said, the authorities would rule Arden out. However, we know that time can/does move differently depending on where you are in existence.

"Time is a funny thing," as Audry Hepburn once said in one of my favorite movies. Arden took a couple of breaks from "reality" to train with the dragon for extended times. Also, the spirits themselves have talked about time not being linear for them, how else could the dragon keep track of millions of realities for the battle?

Yup. I do my best not to make it too easy for the readers to figure out where everything is going. Smile

Cheers!

As long as it's still going, we'll be happy. Wink

I haven't given up on it, but neither have I worked much on it. Money was tight before the market meltdown, and it's only gotten tighter, which means more work for the bi-polar bear. Blue Cross increasing the deductible on my meds so I'm paying almost $300/month doesn't help either.

Oh well, better than paying full price.

Cheers
