Hi!

I made a ranking, searching the largest furry story series currently online, gathering information on as many furry story series as I could find...

First a big apology to Katayamma-san!
"Identity Crisis" is no longer the largest furry story series out there as I had to add "Thorhammer" which took the top position by storm when I evaluated it lateron (now even the name of this thread is no longer right, damn...). I apologize for this! I simply wasn't aware of "Thorhammer's" existence up to now (see discussion below).

One more apology to Hikaru Katayamma (seems to get a habit of me). I missed out Kittiara's VCL archive and did not take all of the stories into account...
Due to the addition of "The journal entries..." IC has now even been pushed to the fourth position now...

Nevertheless Katayamma-san's opus magnum "Identity Crisis" is still one of the largest furry story series right now! And that merits my honest admiration! Congratulations!

So here is the all newly updated Top 25!

Status: Ongoing
Genre: Drama, Slice-of-Life
Content: Sabrina! Do I have to say more?

(no longer listing story series short than 1 MB)
I applied the following rules to get this result: The story had to be online right now, it had to be the creation of a single writer (meaning: no anthologies such as the "Blind Pig") and it had to have an ongoing storyline (not just a short story collection). I downloaded the various formats and saved them as ASCII txt and summed up the stories' files' sizes (the specific sizes are listed above).

Once again, congratulations to Katayamma-san! Anybody who has ever written something knows what an impressive endeavor such a huge story series is.

Just a couple corrections.

Quote:
5. Zig Zag- the Story
2.347.462 kB
Author: James Bruner
Website: http://www.zzstudios.com/ZZtS/chapters.php
Status: Finished (?)
Genre: Slice of life (?), Romance, Drama
Content: Don't we all know her? The story of the only tiger stripped skunk...

It's ongoing, He's going to take some time after chapter 100 and do a rewrite on the first 100 to fix writing flaws and mistakes. Also Zig is not the only tiger stripped skunk.

Quote:
12. Sabrina- The story
1.017.282 kB
Author: Chris Foxx
Website: http://www.furnation.com/ChrisFoxx/sabrina1.html
Status: Finished (?)
Genre: Drama, Slice-of-Life
Content: Sabrina! Do I have to say more?

Also ongoing. Chris just doesn't put out chapters very fast and he's having RL issues to deal with. Also his primary website is www.chrisfoxx.com

But I definately agree that IC is the largest story out there.

Yet another correction. TT is still ongoing. Each chatper is so large it takes a while to write.

If Kit ending where it's at now I would have to hunt her down and do bad things to her because of it...so many plot line left untied and all...

Congratulations Hikaru - Master storyteller. Smile

Just a quick question, however, on file sizes. Hikaru's IC is listed as "3.596.894 kB". That literally translates to 3,596,894,000 bytes or roughly three and one half GIGA-bytes. And this is ascii text? Are you sure the "kb" at the end of the size isnt a typo?

My furry story, the "Wilderhom Trilogy" series, presently stands at 377,000 words and it translates into ascii as only 2,172 kb - or the equivalent of 2.1 MEGA-bytes.
That's an average of 173,573 ascii words per megabyte.

Now assuming Hikaru doesn't, on average, use words that are 100 times larger than mine, his story would need to contain 62.4 MILLION words to be 3.6 Gigabytes in size.

That means he would have to have constantly written at least one word a second - 24 hours a day, 7 days aweek, 365 days a year - for 2 full years. That also means It would probably take the average reader approximately 3 to 6 months - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - just to read it.

Heheh. Hikru is a master typist, (He beats the pants off me when I watch him) but I don't think anyone is that good.

Critics! Everyone is a critic... Mad

BTW, Cirrel, I would add your story if I had it in a format I could use. Unfortunately pdf is nifty for reading, but I can't evaluate it... Otherwise I would add your story series.

Yeah, I'm just too lazy to round it up...

Also, Furlisophical?

Blue horizon

I'm not certain if Paul S. Gibbs' stories fits.

That should opefully keep you counting words a while longer...

As of today, Ian has revamped his site and all chapters are now pdf (previously all html until season 4 chapter3). I see the story contents pages finally have "Thorhammer" as a title banner.

Just to mention it... "Blue Horizon" is already on place 4!
I checked on "Greg and Angie" and it is not even close. (570.021 bytes)
I will try to add "Thorhammer" as soon as I find a way to transform it to txt.
And I will check on Paul S. Gibbs' novels as soon as I can. But keep in mind that one of my rules was the requirement of an ongoing storyline, so only the largest of his novels might actually qualify. We'll see...

Alright. Credit where credit is due: Cirrel and Paul S. Gibb took their rightful places in the ranking, place 6 and 7.
I decided to count two of Gibbs' novels, because they have the same main character. That's pretty much the same case as Ed Garner's novels. I will not count the other ones though. I do not consider the adventures of the former main character's husband as being part of the same storyline.
Thorhammer will be added next time.
So far, thanks to Cirrel and Anthony for their contributions.

Slight corrections on #6 there..

its the wilderhom trillogy (just like the URL)

and Jayson is not a phur, he is human. Kemsa (another 'core' character) is a phur.

Nice list, very interesting!

You know, having a top 15 list kind of snubs all the not so large stories out there... Smile

Why not make it a top 50 list?

Maybe you should talk to one of the admins and get a forum of your own to keep this list and the discussions about it?

And don't forget to tell the authors that they're on the list...

We already have a writers forum where a thread (or multiple threads) like this would be perfect.

Cheers
