Before hostilites comence. At least explain to me WHY you don't like RC.

After that we'll see about dueling with pitchforks.

First date "shinanigans" is something that some of us don't exactly like. Myself included. Of course I have an ex-friend that was doing things with a guy she had barely known for two hours so I don't really have anything to compare that to situation wise. Still you shouldn't do that on the first date.

That wasn't first date, was it? (after scanning the strip again on slow dialup...) OK, so maybe it was, if you don't count the brief encounter when she was snatched away to drive, or all those online sessions. Wink

Ok that I can see. But you also have to realize that in the comic supposedlly they had been converseing with each other for awile now. I my self don't care for getting physical on the first date. But I don't hold that against people who do. If it is something that both people want to do, and the other is not pressured in to doing so.

So anything else?

For a couple that's been communicating online for a while, a first date is often largely to confirm that the impressions they hava formed of each other are accurate. Even so, the first date is probably pushing thing a bit.

I like Chris too, but I don't have any particular problem with RC either, and I agree with the earlier poster who pointed out that in some ways, Sabrina from SOtS isn't quite the same as Sabrina from the comic strip (though the differences aren't as dramatic as, say, EWS's version of Zig Zag and James Bruner's Zig Zag). I've also been a little concerned that if we get too carried away with knocking RC or anything else from the comic strip, EWS might decide enough is enough. I've never met Eric and wouldn't venture to predict whether he might ever do that, but I think we have enough level heads here who would keep a lid on things before they went too far overboard.

I didn't intend to be a buzz kill. And I don't think that Eric would be that petty. What I find interesting is that people can become so wrapped up in a story, that to say something bad about one of the characters would be like insulting a really close friend. I enjoy reading and I sometimes become so involved with the story that I some time have to take alittle time to decompress. Or I'll start believeing that what I'm reading is in fact realife. Case in point I had a really hard time after reading Time Enough for Love. And thats one of the ways I use to judge if a story is worth reading or not. If it doesn't grab me by the shirt collar and pull me in. Than it at worth the time to read it.

And now lets point out that Chris and Sabrina had been comunicating online for a while too and over the phone. And they still didn't do that on the first date. And I don't really have anything against RC, just that I hate him more than anything in this universe. j/k Laughing , I just prefer Chris to him. But yeah I'm waiting to see if RC gets himself dumped or not after the last strips.

I know Eric will most likely never get rid of RC but you know he's going to be in trouble for looking at another femme and going wow.

Oh, how an addition of but one character to a story can make such a difference, like when you toss a rock into a pond. The effects are felt throught the pond (story) especially at the epicenter.

Well, just a minor point... If you go back and read the strip, you'll find it was Sabrina who initiated the "sex talk" that led to the bedroom, so you shouldn't criticize the poor nerd who follows her lead! Mind you, I would have had a hard time resisting her at that stage of my life, too.

Really? I'm not sure what the setup there is, but you'll recall Sabrina sent him a porn picture that apparently, for some reason, appealed to her. As a writing teacher (well, formerly!) I can see several ways of going with this, and I don't think this is going to cause trouble between RC and Sabrina. In fact, I can imagine it having it quite the opposite effect.

But that's the tricky part about over-analyzing writing. Despite what lit teachers have tried to put out for years, Moby Dick was probably just a good story Melville could make money on, and Robert Frost, when asked what the repetition of the last line of "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" meant, said, "It meant I was cold and I wanted to get the hell home!"
