I am reminded of a story my wife tells about a panel at a science fiction convention, where a physicist stated that, under his current understand of quantum physics, faster than light travel was impossible, but time travel was absolutely necessary to fulfill certain requirements. Unfortunately, due to certain circumstances of hers, she hasn't the slightest grasp of higher mathematics. (Her words.) |
As Dr. Kaku once told me- "Its not the math that makes the subject, but its understanding. Once you understand it, thats more than what most people have! You can always learn the math later."

I know Quantum Leap fell prey to that "Law" in the second part of a two parter (he leapt into himself as a teenager in part one), where to save his brother, a reporter had to die. However, I can recall a HUGE number of episodes where he was saving someone's life, and no one died in that person's place.
I think we have to ask - are we working under the Everett theorem, or the single world theory? If Everett, then there are a huge number of stories that come to mind. If single world, well, let me get back to you on that... |
Its bad enough if Tabitha well through all this (hell), only to find out she was on the wrong timeline, the wrong world and saved the Sabrina, to return to find out that nothing's changed...
At this point I think someone's feelings are going to be hurt...

Another question - do you happen to be a member of the Kevin and Kell list under a similar name, by any chance? |
Who's Kevin and Kell? Sound too much like Heaven and Hell...
I notice that just a simple yahoo search gives me about a couple of thousands "Elfen"s. I think I should hunt them all down until I'm the only one left. |

Ack! *outraged splutter* You've never encountered Kevin & Kell? This must be remedied immediately! Quickly, proceed to http://www.kevinandkell.com/ and begin reading! Peruse the archives, read every one, do not pass "Go", do not...
*cough* Excuse that last, please. But really, you ought to read these. This daily is one of the best webcomics going. (I like the characters in SOL a bit better, but K & K comes out every day, which makes choosing between them a bit difficult... fortunately, <gleeful chuckle> I don't have to choose! Greedy thing that I am, I can have both! Oh joy, oh joy, oh joy... <dances, badly, off into the distance...>
Oh, and as for hunting down all those other "Elfen"s, don't bother. Unless you use such mass-extermination methods as tacnukes, they'll multiply faster than you can track 'em down. Far better to simply use the cut direct - it hurts their feelings worse, and is just as effective. |

Sigh, one more site to read. But since it comes recommended, I'll make an exception...

Danm, that would mean gathering them all around the same spot and doing the evil deed. Cant I barrow a time machine or something to assist me? |

Oh, sure - simplest way would be to locate the woman that the archeo-biologists are calling "Eve", trace her back, and eliminate her sometime before puberty. As an added bonus, you get to eliminate all those pesky archeo-biologists!
Of course, there are a few downsides, as well... I don't recommend this course. But any other course is going to be at least an order of magnitude more difficult... this is why I advised letting them live, but snubbing them. |

Consider this a "two opposable thumbs up" vote urging you to go look up Kevin and Kell - it's one of my daily 'net addictions.

Something I found on Herdthinners(?) archive, on a fortune cookie:
One thing they don't tell you about doing experimental physics is that sometimes you must work under adverse conditions... like a state of sheer terror.

Proof thats this universe is so intertwined, not even the best boy scouts can unknot it! |
