Heya, all...
I am in the process of setting up a new server at my apartment to replace the one currently running chrisfoxx.com, planetfurry.com, etc.
This server will be hosted from the apartment. Unfortunately, with my current service level with Road Runner, the up-link bandwidth is limited to 256 Kb/s. The up-link bandwidth the old server has is 1.5 Mb/s, which is 6x greater than what I have from the apartment.
Judging from average up-link bandwidth used by the old server, which is around
220 Kb/s, the link at my apartment should handle the overall bandwidth usage, but anyone with a down-link greater than my up-link will notice a speed drop.
Confusing yet? Hold on, just a few more notes.
I will be speaking with Road Runner sometime next week once I get the chance from work to order a static IP. Right now I'm on a dynamic IP, which has a habit of changing (though rarely) at the most inopportune times. In the meantime, if you want to test the server you will have to DNS on the machine you wish to test from. I don't recommend doing this unless you are comfortable with networking and editing system configuration files.
That said, just add the following lines to your HOSTS file:
Those are the only to sites setup at the moment, but others will be added soon. Please note that the content on any sites you attempt to access on the server at my apartment may not be the most up to date copies of what is on the old server. Once I finish with the setup and move, all content, emails, etc. will be moved to the new server.
