I just noticed this, but things that are not .php files tacked on with an {img} tag (brackets altered for obvious reasons) are now nonfunctional.

Considering it's the only file type VB can save, I'm left with no other option (for my song display). And Pat, even without the link, it still doesn't work. I've (well, we've) tried re-typing the entire sig, removing different aspects of it (ie: the url and color tags), but nothing works. It's the image tag. |

I wouldn't say that VB is limited to saving BMP's, it's just the code you're using can only do that. There are other programs and functions that can help save in virtually any other format. There are many sites out there that can help you with image processing with VB. It should just involve adding a function, subroutine, or whatever VB calls it, to the script you're using.
BMP is not in the list of usable img tag images. This is mostly due to BMP's being one of the worst formats when it comes to decent compression and file size, causing not only the server's bandwidth to be used more than necessary, but also causes download times for the visitor to skyrocket. I highly recommend either GIF, JPEG, or PNG (the only tags available to the img tag). |

PHP isn't the problem. The BBCode function in phpBB2 is limiting the extensions available to be used in the img tag. Any programming language could have the same "problem" if the code intentionally limites something.
The intention from the phpBB2 developers to limit the img tag was for security and bandwidth usage reasons. This prevented not only people from trying to use image formats that are not web-browser friendly to be used, but also prevents malicious code, programs, etc. from being used. |
