Bad question dude! Nintendo never created their own doom!
But, the answer was breaking their deal with Sony about the Play Station.

The numbers speak against that. Ever since the Playstation came out Nintendo was going down. They are fighting it pretty well, especially since they still have a tight grip on the handheld marked but I'm pretty sure the PSP will change that too.

It wasn't the Playstation, it was for a CD-Rom enhancement for the SNES but otherwise you're right.
