Real men don't backup...
But they cry often...
That's why I have an Iomega Insider 800 and a Tandberg 512MB SLR in my PC, not to mention the CD burner and the external Iomega Zip drive...
Not that I use it that much, but it holds the backup of my PDA's and they hold all my writings... _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

As a testimony to my stupidity.....i knew the drive was failing but i thought i had time to get it off to another computer...this drive was in a back up computer of mine that i was using since my other was out of commission.
Then this backup failed....ooh ick.
THe backup comp didnt have a cdr i wish it had...but oh well..just learn from my example....backup anything you think is really important.....

If you have a reasonably modern system (Win 98 or later, or a not-too-old Linux) then a USB pen stick is a great tool. If you want to use it just for your writing and a few other very important files, then you can get a small one quite cheap.
And it is very convenient. I got one recently, it is much more convenient than the CDR I was using before. I have my stories on several computers and have to move it from one to the other (laptop on the commute, main computer at home, ...).
If you have an FTP program (there are plenty of free ones), you can upload stuff to your storage space as well. I don't know how much space Whip gave you, but probably enough to upload your story and a few other very important files. And if it is not in the "public_html" folder, noone else will be able to get at it (unless you tell them your login). _________________ I'm a nut, but there are those who appreciate me for it. |

If you're running WinNT/W2K/XP you have a 'free' FTP client...
Just start a command prompt and type FTP and see what happens...
It's possible it's included in WinMe, too...
'nix users can go somewhere else to argue about which FTP client is the best, OS/2 users should try NetDrive, and Psioneers like me use nFTP...

His off site back up strategy involves sending a zipped copy to me and others.
I use Smartcard flash memory for backups on stories and for transporting between the laptops and my main computer. Since I need them for my digital camera they are ideal for small files. My current cards go up to 128 megs but my older camera only uses up to 32megs so I have a couple of 64s and a 128s that are exclusive to the computers. _________________ Kathmandu

After having one hard drive quit all together i had a virus take my main one down
Well we aren't sure if it was one or not.....Nortons was loaded onto the system and it coud be that nortons thought the comp had a virus and went to town on trying to fix it...we will never be quite sure
All we know is the info was corrupted beyond recovery
Well it was back to 6 months ago where i had a backup of the drives contents....
not a total loss but still set me back.....
computers this month have been a bitch

Another interesting chapter.
So Mother did not expect meeting herself. I wonder how she'll get out of this one. And things don't look very good for swallow.
Endora pregnant? Now that's a surprise.
A polar bear named Arden? Hmmm, one has to wonder. _________________ I'm a nut, but there are those who appreciate me for it. |

Funny that "Arden" should work in construction.
The other one (if he is such) usually prefers destruction. _________________ I'm a nut, but there are those who appreciate me for it. |

All in all I thought it was pretty good I was finally glad to get an explanation as to how Mother's mind got control of Swallow's body. It almost seems that the "repaired" version of Mothers consciousness the one trapped in Alison's body seems remorseful over what she did to the clones so Mother's evil behavior is a result of the corruption. Hmm the creature at the start was a mother and a hunter in the cloning process this mind set was duplicated as well but the corruption caused the mother clone to want to create the perfect hunter or assassin, am I close? I wonder what Swallow/Mother's reaction is going to be when she finds out the truth about Alison. Endora is pregnant you've been practicing your curve balls haven't you I won't comment on the ending except that I agree with the others, your evil. _________________ "Political Correctness is tyranny with manners." Bang up or knock up? I always get those terms confused.
The big question now is, do we whip Cheetaur with a wet noodle until he cranks out another chapter or wait patiently to find out? _________________ Read my comic: http://www.ImperialGelf.com
