The ISP that houses the server had a major power outage that lasted for several hours. I didn't know about it being down until after 6:30pm. I don't have a definate time from them when they were able to restore power, but they said it was before they closed up for the day.
The server is not designed to automatically turn back on after a power outage because of prior experiences which damaged internal components during brownouts and rapid power outages. I'm not entirely thrilled that they didn't bother powering my machine back up with the rest of their systems.
The server was brought up this morning around 9:15am EST.
(dammit, and the server had been going strong for almost half a year without a single reboot! ) |

Efforts to have redundant servers are in motion, but time to dedicate to it is very limited. |

I can't deny I had the classical doomsday thoughts. But I'm glad PF is back.

Isn't there a central UPS system? Having one would not only keep the power up for a breif period until the backup generator could kick in (if there is one), but, it doubles as a line suppressor, because it's indipendent of the line outlet, meaning if theres a brownout or 5000 volt power spike, the computer would never know the wiser...
I wanna get a UPS, but they're so pricey! ;p |
