heh, well seeing the topics for dance, and other music, I thought this topic would be welcome here
Well as of late i'm listening to Good Charlotte's album "The Young and the Hopeless". This album is rather good, the sound is fairly similar to Lit (most notably the producer of the album has worked on a few Lit albums). One notable thing is this punk group doesn't originate from Orange County or the west coast, but was formed near D.C. _________________ Big... Shinee.. Red.. Button!!!

I'm listening to King Prawn - Surrender to the Blender
In my opinion, their best album to date. First Offence sounded pretty raw I thought, and their sound has definately matured. This album is melodic in places, catchy choruses and extremely skankable rythyms make this a must hear. Too bad they've split up

I've been listening to a lot of Rise Against. They're the only real punk band I have a lot of experience with. Their album "Revolutions Per Minute" is really good. _________________ FurPride || Furbox |

Ah, finally back at the dorm where I can listen to my music nice and loudly (and tormenting people at 2 am with Punk Rock blaring)...
Well for tonight me gots NoFX "The War On Errorism" coming in loud and clear. This album is very listenable and is much more Punk than Good Charlotte's stuff. A good quantity of songs really give a work out for my subwoofer (and respectively my brain vibrating in my skull). Over all this keeps up with their style formed from "Punk In Drublic", very listenable and also very much punk. Tough this is on e of the few groups that is starting to approach the mainstream, but it has it's roots firmly planted in it's Punk origins.
Well here are some good songs from the album. The lyrics tend to be a bit strong and go with the protest against the current order of things that was/is the punk standard.

Quote: | NoFX: The Separation of Church And Skate
lost in a sea of combat boots, flush the bouncers with wasted youth
when did punk rock become so safe, when did the scene become a joke
the kids who used to live for beer and speed now want their fries and coke
cursing and flipping birds are not allowed, in fact let's keep noise levels down
must separate the church and skate
when dont we put pad on the kids, helmets, head gear and mouth pieces
they we could pad the floor and walls, put cameras inside bathroom stalls
we make sure only nice bands play, and we could sing my country 'tis of thee sweet land of liberty
when did punk rock become so safe
i know it wasnt Duane or Fletcher, who put up the barricades
like a skate in the heart, somehow we got driven apart
i want conflict i want dissent, i want the scene to represent
our hatred of authority, our fight against complacency
stop singing songs about girls and love, you killed the owl you freed the dove
confrontation and politics replaced with harmonies and shticks
when did punk rock become so tame, these f**king bands all sound the same
we want our fights we want our thugs, we want our burns we want our drugs
where is the violent apathy, these f**king records are rated G
Idiots Are Taking Over
It’s not the right time to be sober
Now the idiots have taken over
Spreading like a social cancer, is there an answer?
Mensa membership exceeding
Tell me why and how are all the stupid people breeding
Watson, it’s really elementary
The industrial revolution
Has flipped the b***h on evolution
The benevolent and wise are being cornered, ostracized, what a bummer
The world keeps getting dumber
Insensitivity is standard and faith is being fancied over reason
Darwin’s rollin over in his coffin
The fittest are surviving much less often
Now everything seems to be reversing, and it’s worsening
Someone flopped a steamer in the gene pool
Now angry mob mentality’s no longer the exception, it’s the rule
And I’m startin to feel a lot like charlton heston
Stranded on a primate planet
Apes and orangutans that ran it to the ground
With generals and the armies that obeyed them
Followers following fables
Philosophies that enable them to rule without regard
There’s no point for democracy when ignorance is celebrated
Political scientists think the same one vote that some monkeys are inbred
Majority rule, don’t work in mental institutions
Sometimes the smallest softest voice carries the grand biggest solutions
What are we left with?
A nation of god-fearing pregnant nationalists
Who feel it’s their duty to populate the homeland
Pass on traditions
How to get ahead religions
And prosperity be a symbol to culture
The idiots are takin over |

Dunno, Linkin Park mixes together various types of music into their style. It can't be considered "Pure" punk, but more like crossover punk, where they experiment with different styles which normally aren't used.
It pretty much depends on what you think "Punk Rock" is. _________________ Big... Shinee.. Red.. Button!!!

Heh, I'm kind of a snob sometimes when it comes to this. It just bugs me when people (or bands themselves) refer to something as punk when it is clearly not (such as Blink 182).
Linkin Park does mix a lot of styles, but I haven't heard anything punk-like in their music. Although I admit I haven't heard most of their songs cause I'm not really into the generic angst fad. _________________ FurPride || Furbox |

Ya just reminded me of a NoFX song
Quote: | All Outta Angst
I'm not insane, I'm not bummed out
I got no one to blame, nothing to change
I got no evil to fight
One thing's for sure, I'm all Outta angst
Society don't bother me
And there's something wrong with that
So I'm off to Pakistan, learn the laws of Islam
Fundamentalism, forget that rock 'n' roll
No cigarette, no drink, in fact
It's difficult to think about getting laid
When you don't even get to see her face
I'm not insane
I'm not insane, I'm not liquored up
I got nothin' to do, nothin' to lose
I got no place to call home
One thing's for sure, I'm all outta angst
Society don't bother me, there's something wrong with that
Next step Mongolia
Don't get to golf or f**k or bowl with ya
Throw out that handicap
No stepping out, till spring, in fact it's
Difficult to sing when it's 20 below
And that's during the day
I'm not insane

Okay, I finally have to ask. What does "angst" mean? It's the German word for fear but I can't say that it means the same in American. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Angst is anxiety and depression - often associated with teenagers. It's also shorthand for a unit of measurement. _________________ Throw me to the wolves because there's order in the pack,

I realize New punk is out and about. But some of it is just 'new' and in terms of music people tend to grow concieted over a band that 'was' good, but 'isn't' all that hot now. It's basically a mental evolution.
My little AFI deal is that I just dun like that album, I'm sure AFI needed a quick buck or two[billion]. I hope their next album is a bit more like Art Of Drowning. _________________ http://amberre.deviantart.com http://www.furaffinity.net/user.php?name=terrah |

Well I don't have any A.F.I. CDs but I gots lots of NoFX stuff, and they're not really all that mainstream as Blink 182 or the Offspring.
Me being a rabid fan of the Offspring, I can say that they've "returned" a bit to their roots of Smash and Ixnay. The new songs are more mainstream, but they do have huge similarities to the style found in those two older albums. _________________ Big... Shinee.. Red.. Button!!!
