Hiyas! ^_^
I was getting a new PC and I think it would be awsome to get a graphic pen for it. Question is which, and if I can afford it
Well, here's also a great opportunity to tell us all what you use and let me know what's best as well! _________________

I use Flash MX 2004 Pro and Fireworks MX 2004, I still need to practive my drawing skills but I can draw some things quite good, mostly cartoon animals and such. I also make 3D terrain art, if you click the link in my sig you will see some of my works. |

If you want to get a graphic tablet, Wacom make the best. I've used a friend's and they are really nice, although very tricky to use when you first start. They're also very expensive. His was an A5 Intuos2 which cost him £250 at the time ($420). I can't quite afford that yet
I'm getting quite good at drawing with a mouse - although my drawing talent is still quite lacking! _________________ Throw me to the wolves because there's order in the pack,

I use a Wacom Intuos 6x8 graphics pad. It cost me $350 at the time. which was lmost 5 yeas ago. I never regretted getting it. Almost all the stuff I do is in the computer with the graphics pad. The hard part to learn is drawing without looking at you own hand. Ya gotta look at the screen - sort of like learning touch-typing, but easier.

Whoa wait a minute you can't draw? Then how the hell do you do these great pics even with Poser (not sure what this app does) and Photoshop (makes my head spin)? _________________ "Political Correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston

Nope can't even draw a straight line with the aid of an ruler. Poser 5 is like virtual paper dolls except with 3d and lighting(i guess the art comes into play when i create a character thats not standard to poser). all i do is take a character/mesh pose it(thus poser) add a background then render(take a picture) then export render into photoshop, use a smudge brush to get the furriness and there ya have it. _________________

I know poser alright... Cute ideas !
Well, 350$ is pretty expensive. Say, does the pen deliver data to the PC, or the pad? Or both? Or does it depends on the specific item?

It's weird isn't it? I mean I can draw, but I tend to loose focus
on the mental image. I'm the kind who thinks in three
dimensions, not two. Maybe it's one of the reasons why I
sometimes struggle to draw a picture of a character, or an object
in my mind. Imagine having to draw and object that is constantly
being moved, turned so that all is visible, but without focusing on
just one side, or angle. I mean if only one could photograph the
object in one's mind, and spread them out before you and pick the
best angle... *sighs* But unfortunately I don't work like that...
I have been drawing lately.. slowly improving, but it's darn difficult...
or you could just simply paw me some modeling clay and
I'll show you what can be done |

Basically, a graphics pad is a cursor pointing device just like a mouse, only you hold and move the stylus like a pen. The pad picks up the stylus position and relays that information to the computer. It works like that with any program. Some programs like photoshop, however, are designed to take advantage of some of the other features graphics pads have to offer, such as the tilt angle of the stylus and how much pressure is being applied to the point. For instance, if I press harder on my pad, I'll get a darker, wider line than if I press lightly. In that way, it simulates a real pen.
