Maggie, my darling redheaded wife, is hurt.
Now this isnt a silly kind of "pout, Im sad hurt". Rather, it is more along the lines of a constant state of pain. See, Maggie, in her wonderful mom-like way, joined the children on the trampoline and broke her back.
12th thoracic vertebra has had a compression fracture. Instead of the vertebra looking square-ish from the side, it looks like a civil war Kepi hat.

What does this mean for Casa de conley?
Well, for me it means no intimate time with my wife until her back is healed...
But the REALLY bad thing is that we rely on Maggie's income to feed the family. I dont have a clue what to do right now.
Just letting everyone know. _________________ "Do not Taunt Happy Fun God" -Cthulhu |

As I already told you personally, I'm sorry to hear that and I hope that Maggie will be back at full health soon.
I would offer my help, but I'm afraid the only thing that would really help you now is something I cannot offer. Sorry.
Still if there is any other way I can help you, just tell me. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Fish I'm sorry to hear about your wife and hope she makes a good recovery, um I don't know how you feel on the subject but if you find yourselves in dire financial trouble don't hesitate to ask I don't make much but can easily spare a little here and there, and I know I'm not the only one willing to help. Take care and tell Maggie we hope she’s feeling better real soon. _________________ "Political Correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston

Take it from one who has lived with the pain of broken lumbar vertibres, Heminger Rods (placed and then removed) and Life Time Member of Club Pain.
1) Tell her Welcome to Club Pain
2) Get used to it, she'll have bad days and very bad days- and will need to take it easy for a long time to heal. My case- 2 years plus.
3) Talk to a sepecialist about options for her, for pain will be great as times passes if the injury is not checked over and treated properly. In spine injury cases, 1/2 a treatment is worse than no treatment.
4) Let her rest, dont let her lift heavy things. But in her case- anything heavy can be just a few pounds; anything that she have to shift her weight and body to move it, is too heavy.
5) Going back to 3; check the discs in between the vertibres later and often. They may (more like are) injured but not yet veiwable on xrays. If she starts to show pain, the discs may have herniated or shifted with time.
6) check options for temporary disability. She's going to need time to rest, and that may affect her job performance and attendance... best for her to take off 6 months to a year now and be strong enough to work later on.
7) and of course, you being her man, continue all those tiny things that say you love her, but do it often... and understand that though she's in pain (more than she may admit), she loves you too. That part will never end, but understanding must go up to the next level.

Oh, wow. I am so sorry to hear that!
Maggie has my utmost, heartfelt sympathy. I assume her doctor has her on a heavy-duty anti-inflammatory, and hopefully a good analgesic as well.
I'll add her to the prayer chain. I must say, it certainly worked in my case, so there definitely is hope. _________________ Oddly enough, my life is based on a true story. (Ashleigh Brilliant) |

OK
First Thanks from Maggie and me. I really needed someone to lift my spirits.
It has now hit Maggie like a ton of bricks, she realizes now how close she came to being paralyzed or dying.
Sigh.
It hit me last week. She just would not believe me about the problem.
New update - she's sick. She may be having a reaction to the codeine and such. I am watching over her VERY carefully. She has been in the car TWICE in 2 days - I had to take her to the docs, and to the Orthotic Shop. She is getting a special made brace - Very sexy. Goes from tailbone to neck on the back, and in the front from hips to collar.
Just what I always wanted Robo-Wife.
She is not well guys, she just seems to be getting worse.
If this gets ANY worse, I am hospital bound with her.
Hugs to you all, and for now, I am incomunicado. I will update as I can, but...
Pray for Maggie. Pray that I dont go nuts with the Dad duties and the nurse duties.
This is your friendly neighborhood Fish, signing off, for a while. _________________ "Do not Taunt Happy Fun God" -Cthulhu |

If it won't bother you to have it done, my wife and I will light a candle and try to send some healing energy her way. _________________ That which does not kill me probably hurt like a sonuvabitch. |
