I personlly don't see the point in Widescreen besides bugging the heck out of me when I'm watching a movie. I don't see anything extra or anything so what's the point.

It depends in large part on the kind of TV you have. Anything smaller than a 27" and the widescreening feature makes the picture so small that viewing the movie becomes a solitary pursuit. If you own a widescreen TV (40" diagonal or bigger -- the kind I WISH I had) then widescreening the picture makes sense.

I would never even consider watching The Fellowship of The Ring in "formatted to fit your TV" mode. That battle of Sauron versus men and elves in the First Age is one of the most awesome war sequences I've ever seen, and it loses A LOT if you snip off 20% from each end of the screen.

WIDESCREEN whenever possible I like SCI-FI movies especially Star Trek and they simply look better in widescreen plus it's better for panoramic scenes.

I have to go with widescreen. With 90% of the movies out there, you just lose too much. I cite 'LOTR' and 'Jaws' as examples. Which reminds me...

*goes back to watching X-Men 2 on widescreen*

Yes LOTR I only watch in Widescreen but I am big on comedys and in those movies nothing is really happening that what is in the middle of the screen. On those movies it's pointless and annoying on my 20" screen.
