My antique of a computer decided to go up in smoke a few days ago and took with it three months worth of writing, among other things, when it died.
A new story I was working on has been completely lost, as well as a couple of new chapters for existing stories that were for the most part, complete. Of course I didn't have any backups. Sheesh, you'd think I would have learned that lesson by now
With little else to do, and seeing as how I'm in a rather foul mood at the moment, I figured that I might as well post this poll to decide how the old computer should be disposed of. I might even post a few pictures of the end result... |

You should strip it of whatever parts are still useful...then I say beat it with a sledge hammer to get out all your rage. Trust me it will feel good. _________________

Got any explosives? I heard that a mixture of gasoline, and some artificial fertilizes can really make things like computer boxes reach new heights |

Well, my suggestion is this:
Take your computer completely apart. When you feel stressed out, break one of those parts as a means of stress release. OR, just take a sledge hammer after it. Save the monitor and anything else you can still use though. They might come in handy. |

My suggestion is go to the highest point in your house/building... open a window... pick up computer... toss computer out window (hopefully not onto anything like a car or a person)
That's what I plan on doing with my old comp... _________________ If you have never made a fool of yourself you are not in my class.... |

Been there, it sucks. Personally, I'd open up the hard drive, then take the platter to a grinding wheel to ensure that any sensitive information (credit card #s, socials, etc) can't be recovered. Sell the rest for parts, then grab a sledgehammer. Great for fun and profit! _________________ (00:40:05) nbz: you win at the motherf***ing internet O_O |

Like we did to our donor computer. Sanctity of life doesn't apply to PC's, Mwuhahaha.....making a smoke screen to hide it's crappiness, isn't gonna protect it for long. |

There are data recovery specialists who can get data off the most mangled of hard drives... just ask at a PC repair shop.
If all else fails... fire is good.
BURN IT!

Considering what they have to do to get the data off the drive, their rates are probably too steep for anything that is not business-critical.
Otherwise, ...
Reuse anything that is still working and worth the effort (If it is a couple of years old, you can probably get something much better for a little money).
Do whatever gives you the most satisfaction with the rest.
Just be careful ... burning the materials a computer is made off is likely to produce a lot of harmful and poisonous crap. A lot of that stuff should not go into the regular trash either but rather to a dangerous waste processing plant. _________________ I'm a nut, but there are those who appreciate me for it. |
