Alpha - First incarnation of the program. Some features may be missing, but major functionality is supposed to be there. User interface is considered 'preliminary' and can change.
Beta - All features are present and the user interface is to be finished. No major changes are to happen after this point...
Gold - The finished product. This is what the consumer gets when he forks out his hard-earned cash. It better be damn near what the Beta testers looked at.
If a major change happen during the Beta phase the product is supposed to go back to Alpha status!
It also means that someone in project planning goofed...
(Or that it is a M$ product ) |
i don't know much about the beta going alpha but i think the gold still means prerelease or redy to go at least it was that way with masters of orino 3. _________________ __________________

Even with the gold release there might be things to work on. I think with MOO3 it was the multiplayer mode (which better be really good. It sucked greatly with MOO2)
If you want a long gold period, look at Dungeon Keeper. I think that had was gold for almost a year before they actually released it.

dude beleive me its much better. the whole game its a lot faster in ways but still a bit complicated and long which makes the game fun. The galaxy or main screen is now fully 3D which means you have a real galaxy like star set. the only fault i've found is the wormole settup. now to get from one place to the other you have to use preset wormole routes you must investigate first or risk sending a ship on a 100 + turn trip. other than that i've done a lot of multyplayng and its fast fun and simultaneus the only wait would be while the other person finishes his turn though you can place a time limit if you wish. _________________ __________________

Uh... sorry for asking, but what is MOO3???
But again, alot of things work better in their gold thingy instead of their beta... Just look at Windows XP...
EDIT: Sorry for bringing up such a horribly subject, but it made sense at the time! _________________ My Deviant artpile

Master of Orion 3
Think of Civilization in space.
There is a topic about it in Everyday blither-blather. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Everyday what?
Oh well, it sounds fun... but i'm all busy playing Neverwinter nights at the moment... and studying for an oral exam in math and physics... (Doing both at the same time that is!) - hardcore!
Civ in space? Sounds like a bad sequel to Lost in space... _________________ My Deviant artpile

Well, Master of Orion is still around. Most people never heard of Galactic Civilization. What does that tell you?

Okay, sue me for not having the ability and stamina to tinker enough with 'clean' non Windows operation systems
If it makes you feel better, Microsoft didn't earn much on me. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Gal-Civ is a turn based strategy game, and V1.0 showed up soon after Os/2 V3.0 (Warp) arrived. It has a hellishly good AI system(Or at least that's what I say since it creams me every time I play), and needed a VGA system capable of 640x480 with 250 colours or more. If you had a Pentium, that was nice, but a fast 486 would do...
The latest OS/2 version is V2 Gold, but the biggest difference is that it has a scenario/world creator package bundled in.
One scenario someone made is a fantasy world (just one world, but with countries and all that), so it's VERY adaptive...
The Windoooze version can be bought at www.stardock.com
But I recommend that you subscribe to their Drengin Network instead. Then you get Gal-Civ, Stellar Frontier, The Corporate Machine and loads of other goodies. (Including whatever game they release the next year)
The Stardock guys are also famous for their Object Desktop and WindowBlinds programs...
(You can make Windooooze look less dorky with them ) _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"

Oh, that kindo stuff...
Well, to be quite honest i do know the rest of teh forum, i have lurked, but found nothing of interest...
I already terrorise one message board... The one on www.classic-trash.com - Its an abandonware site, you can download FREE old games from it!
Anyways, the games you people discribe... They remind me a bit of Imperium Galactica 2 Its a game i used to play... Good one to! Had a bit of a "Simcity/C&C/Star Wars Rebellion thing going on! Really good...
<runs off to reinstal the game and play it!>
BTW today i passed my oral math exam, w00t! got a 9! _________________ My Deviant artpile

Weird....
In the last school I attended a 1 meant a perfect exam, a 4 was 'you passed because the teacher felt pity for you' and the scale hit rock bottom at 6. (They never bother to give a grade then, only write 'fail'. But to get a 6 you'd have to be absent because you were joyriding the teachers VW Beetle )
If you got a 9....
Did you climb a belltower with a rifle strapped to your back?
Just kidding!
Math is a very difficult subject, so congrats! _________________ "My name's Lion, Anthony Lion"
