Yes, friends a force most sinister has invaded my apartment and my computer. This evil force is causing all kinds of problems with my production as well as my sleep.

What evil force could I be talking about? Why it's the StarWars Galaxy Beta of course. My beta disks showed up on Thursday and, as I'm sure you can immagine, it's been robbing me of my time.

I have started on the next chapter, however it's nowhere near complete. I plan on "super-sizing" it to make up for lost time, but unforutnately I'm so tired that I can't continue to type so I'm gonna go to bed.

The destruciton of the empire can wait. Wink

Heh. If you want in the beta, then just go to the [href=http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/]official site[/url] and sign up for it. They've re-opened the application process.

Correct me if I'm wrong but when they start the Beta tests doesn't it mean they are done with the alpha version and are working on the beta version now?

Funny... I've always thought that the Beta release was a kind of pre-sale playtesting....

And the Alpha release being the final marlet version.

Phear my zany econometric lingo... Twisted Evil

Beta testing is pre-sales type testing. This is the Phase 3 testing, so it's the third round of the beta. As players identify problems in the game, the developers attempt to fix that bug while also polishing, tuning and adding the last remaining features before going public.

I can't really give any details out, but I will say that the graphics are incredible to the point that they can and WILL tax even the highest quality video card on the market if you turn the settings up to maximum. As for the play, all I can say is that there's a bit of a learning curve, but if you have someone to show you the ropes, you can get VERY addicted to the game.

Cheers

You know, when I learned programming we had these phases:

Alpha - First incarnation of the program. Some features may be missing, but major functionality is supposed to be there. User interface is considered 'preliminary' and can change.

Beta - All features are present and the user interface is to be finished. No major changes are to happen after this point...

Gold - The finished product. This is what the consumer gets when he forks out his hard-earned cash. It better be damn near what the Beta testers looked at.

If a major change happen during the Beta phase the product is supposed to go back to Alpha status!
It also means that someone in project planning goofed...
(Or that it is a M$ product )

Actually, some have reached Beta, but those programs have been quietly killed by BillG...
