My main linux box which also acts as my firewall crashed tonight. It just sits there and beeps as it continuously resets. No clue what's wrong. It's not a drive, ram or cards. Just doesn't wana work.
Needless to say, I've been too busy to write tonight.

I just replaced my SMC Router with a Wireless unit. It's not a true State-type Firewall by any means, but it does block ports by default and provides NAT, which is 99% of what most people need.
I used it for over a year with my Cable Modem and it worked flawlessly. And pulls just 5 watts! Model # SMC7004BR. Here is the info: http://www.smc.com/drivers_downloads/library/7004BR_DS.pdf
I would let it go for real cheap. If interested, PM me. _________________ I'm out of my mind right now, but feel free to leave a message... |

It's a nice gesture, however I need that box up and running as a web & mail server. It's what I do all of my delvelopment work on. I've got it loaded with SQL, PHP, C++, Java, Cobol, etc.
I also host several web pages for friends on it as well as using it as a file server for the gneech while coloring strips for him. _________________ Read my comic: http://www.ImperialGelf.com

Ahh good ol emergency repair procedure number one gotta love it.
Hikaru, is it possible for you to swap out the cpu to another board? if the cpu still works you may have a bad board or a glitchy power supply also try reseating or swapping you video card (if not using onboard VGA) and try removing all your PCI cards (that is of course if you haven't already tried all this). _________________ "Political Correctness is tyranny with manners." As Fishburne said, does it matter? Besides, once the kernel team finish the outstanding issues w/the Sun 4d series of machines, you have the choice of continuing to use Solaris or putting Splack or Debian on it to make it cozy familiar to you...
I was going to ask if shipping an ATX motherboard would help you out, but if you could get a bruiser machine like a 1000E, I'd take someone up on it... |

Yea, my offer of a dinky router pales next to the 1000E. Of course, the 1000E pulls WAY more than 5 watts...

Ok. Aparently one of the two CPU's in the box smoked. Shit happens, eh? Oh well. Friend brougt over a couple of P3/850Mhz cpu's to drop in, but unfortunately the bios must be updated before that can happen. Why's that a problem? I can't get the bloody box to READ the floppy drive (sighs). It'll come up with just one processor, but just won't talk to the floppy. Replaced it and it sitll didn't work. Not sure about the replacement floppy so will try another.
In the meanwhile, my business associate who owes me some money for work I've done is going to order a new motherboard/cpu/ram for me. Hopefully I'll be back on-line by the end of the week. _________________ Read my comic: http://www.ImperialGelf.com

Well, I have not had to do it as well. Nero (Burning ROM) is supposed to be able to do it, but there must be other programs as well. _________________ I'm a nut, but there are those who appreciate me for it. |
