I have been doing a little more writing these last few days. And it seems that I'm finally getting close to finishing that adult short story I have been working on for the last two months or so. Maybe then my muse will let me work on something else again.

One of these days I'll have to learn to estimate how long a certain story is going to become. Confused The "short" story I'm working on will probably end up close to 20k words, only about 10 times what I initially estimated...

After some three months in which I wrote a lot, I have written hardly anything during the last two weeks. It's not that I don't have time, but various things have conspired to crush my motivation for the time being.
One of them was how little response I got to the last chapter of "The Visitors". Sad
I know I shouldn't complain, many other writers get even less response, but that has been the story to which I have always gotten a lot of replies and since I thought the last chapter was pretty good (and important after a few transitory chapters).... Sad

Maybe it was just that Furry_wolf said it all with his post?

Mad Now I've gone and missed noticing that I have passed a big milestone. Confused

Sometime at the beginning of November the wordcount of my posted stories (not including partially finished chapters, ...) has passed 300 000 words. Shocked Printed as a paperback, that would be 1000 pages! Surprised

Go! Me! Rolling Eyes Wink

There won't be any updates for a while.

I'm going on a holiday in Peru, from the 1st until the 18th of March.
I won't have anything ready to post before I leave. I'll be offline while I'm gone and I don't know if and how much I'll be able to write, so I don't know if I'll have anything to post right after I return.

I doubt you will, but if you happen to be changing planes through DFW, let us know in advance and those of us aound here will try to stop by and say "Howdy!" during your layover.

Thanks for the offer, but we won't get anywhere close to US soil.
Our flights are Vienna - Amsterdam - Lima.

Do as I do, bring a decent PDA to write on....

With decent I mean that it must fulfill these 3 points:

1. Being able to synchronize/copy files to PC
2. Has a keyboard. (Grafitti is NOT good for writing more than a line or two at a time)
3. Kan take memos/notes/whatever of more than 2KB...

And if the batteries is standard AA or AAA cells, then that's a VERY big plus.

Actually I have a small notebook (JVC MP-XP7210) to write on. The batteries last about 2-3 hours, that is usually enough (I should be able to recharge it every day).

Ah...

But a PC isn't 'instant on' and many times you won't be allowed to use it on the plane.

The Batteries on my S3c(uses 2 x AA) usually lasts 45 hours, and a recharge on my netBook(A sub-notebook size with a GOOD keyboard) gives about 5 - 6 hours.

Yes, those are 'active use' hours...
(Just replaced the batteries in the S3c. The last set was inserted in December.)

Sure a PDA is better in some respects, but that PC is about the smallest I want to write on (it's about A5 size). Any smaller and the keyboard and screen would be too small to be useful.
I have not yet had any problems on a plane and I don't really mind the 30 seconds boot time from hibernation, I don't start working on a story if I don't have at least 10 or 15 minutes of time before I have to stop again.

The problem isn't having something to write on, it's having time to write, time when I'm not distracted, not too tired, ...

My netBook is about A5 size or thereabout and has a 640x480 256colour LCD screen, and the keyboard is atleast comparable to most 'full-size' PCs, and in some cases, better...

The fact that it's rated to take a 1meter drop don to a wooden floor is another matter entirely.
