Just a few comments;
I used to live in Loomis and Roseville, CA., a stone's throw away from the location of this story. Nice place. Or it was, when I lived there in the mid-70's.
I have been almost stuck in Auburn when a winter storm blew in and by the next morning there was four feet of snow in Colfax, just up the road.
Just a few years back, a few of us went to Reno, Nevada for the weekend. Heard a storm was coming in, left that morning within a few hours. Almost didn't make it out of the Sierras because of snow.
Anyway, new story, new characters, still working on bringing out their personalities. That's the reason it's not coming along very fast.

Just caught up with this story. I'd be lying to say I didn't see this coming with Jeff and Krista, my nose was twitching by the end of chapter two regarding those two.
And I'm already worried about Jeff joining House Tal-Hassanai. When Krista told him "If you did not belong to a house, I would be forced to become a freelancer by joining to you," and then "The only other way into a house is through ritual challenge and combat. You would make a challenge to the head of a house and then fight a designated house champion. If you defeated him or her, you would be accepted into that house," the fur on the back of my neck fluffed a bit. Ritual combat? That could be anything from a wrestling match to a duel to the death.
Check your six, Jeffry! There's trouble at paw, literally!
Good story-telling, Kel. Excellent work. I like the locations too. I'm somewhat familiar with that area on the old SP main line over The Mountain, and enjoy the references to places and conditions I remember. I'm looking forward to more of the story.

-Hmm, I didn't think that I wrote it that transparently. Well, two soldiers, thrown together by a freak snowstorm . . .

-If he had to fight a battle to the death, don't you think Na'Krista would have chosen to become a freelancer rather that possibly lose her One Love? I think we should wait and see what happens when Jeff asks for admittance into House Tal-Hassanai.

-I"m sure he already has all defenses in maximum mode right now. I will say this; sometimes an ally comes from the least expected source.

-Thank you, SC. I am trying to make "Scribe" my best tome to date.
More of Jeff and Krista to come,

I think we will be hearing more about that soon. I can't elaborate further because I do not wish to give away too much.

Well, without further fanfare, here is Chapter 07 of "Scribe", posted for your reading pleasure.
Be forewarned; some very 'graphic' situations (not sexual, for your info) occur in this chapter. Fair warning. It is war, by the way.
Enjoy, if you can.

Hmmm, for the most part, the answer to the question of war is right...but like a lot of life, there are exceptions ...
