I just recently started wearing prescription glasses and the most annoying thing I've noticed is just how easily the lenses smudge. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL ANIMALS GREAT AND SMALL!! Does anyone know of a way to prescription lenses a bit more resistant to smudging without interfering with their corrective properties? Evil or Very Mad

Seriously Styx, I've been wearing glasses for a few years now, and I've found that they get their dirtiest when they aren't on my face. Hanging them in shirt pockets or on shirt collars, throwing them on the dash of whichever vehicle I'm in, or "storing" them up on the top of my head always seem to net me dirty (and eventually scratched) lenses.

If they're not on your nose full time and should be, leave them there. If you only need to wear them part time (as I do), get in the habit of keeping a hard case for them with you everywhere you go. It's inconvenient, yeah, but the glasses will stay cleaner and have much less scratching if you store them in a hard case when you're not actually wearing them.

The hard cases I use make an awesome "pop" noise when you shut them as the lid is spring loaded. It's the perfect toy for those boring meetings ... I just hold it discretely in my lap, snap it shut, and then jump and look around all puzzled-like with everyone else while they try to figure out whether they just heard a distant gunshot or some errant flatulence. Keeps the day rolling ...

I'd have to agree with Mike on that one. I usually use tissues or toilet paper. If it's the really soft stuff it usually leaves your glasses covered with paper fluff. But don't use the 60 grain sandpaper-like toilet paper either, that will scratch them up. If you get something Really greasy on them, a light spray of Windex or rinsing them off under running water with a light dish detergent usually works for me. Then you gently wipe them off with tissue, after you blow some of the excess water off.

I've worn glasses for 40 years and yes, as long as they're on your face (where they belong) they won't get smudged (much).

I use a microfiber cloth to clean mine along with a bath under the tap with dish soap once in a while.

I will second the hard case.

And SC, don't put your specs on the dashboard! I have had the first hand experience of watching my brother's glasses go sailing out the driver's window when we passed a semi with both windows down. Shocked

That sounds good mike, thanks. I've been using a micro fiber cloth I got with the glasses to wipe off the smudges but normally it just smears it around. Rolling Eyes

I"ve been wearing them for years and yes the smudges are annoying but after a while I just got used to it. I don't even think about it when I clean them off anymore. Sorry I know that's not much help but I'm definitely going to try some of what Mike suggests and see if that helps out on my end.

Your glasses are going to get smudged, nothing you can really do about it but it pays to keep an extra soft cloth in your pocket for emergency purposes.

Been wearing glasses for about 17 years, originally just to see the chalkboard at school, now practically blind without em. (you want a challenge, try loosing your glasses at the bottom of the lake while you are a councilor in training at a blind camp! Then having to lead these people when you can't see too much more then they can and have to lead a camper on a horse through a trail in the woods!)

Basically skin is oily, anytime the glasses contact skin you're going to have oily smudges.
A microfiber cloth and a small spritz bottle or either glasses cleaner or windex is very helpful. When I got my new pair recently the place I bought the glasses from had a kit for sale that had the cleaner, a microfiber cloth and a bunch of packets of alcohol based wipes. It was fairly cheap so I got it and have been very glad I did.

Yes, I get smudges, but those are usually taken care of by the micro-fiber cloth that I carry around with me. And I'll whole-heartedly agree with Silver Coyote here--having a hard case is wonderful.

I got a good hard case with the glasses but I rarely use it as I wear the glasses most of the day.

i wear glasses for 25 years now and they are always dirty to a degree.
here in holland you can buy special soft and wet tissues for cleaning your glasses.
they are cheap and easy to carry around.

This reminds me of a comic strip I used to read (can't remember the name of it). The running joke was that the guy would never clean his glasses. He claimed a layer of grease protected the lenses, and even suggested bacon grease would help. Shocked

Yea, not true. About the bacon grease I mean. The strip was a real strip.
