Oooh, shiny! I want!
Heh, in some parts of Kansas, you could unfold the wings and fly right off the interstate.

I wonder how many of those will fit in a C-130? Could you deploy them in flight?
Seriously, that wouldn't be much use where I live, unfortunately. This is built as an LSA, a "light sport aircraft." LSA pilots are somewhat limited in terms of what kind of airspace they may fly in. FAR 61.315 says they may only fly in daylight hours and must stay below 18,000 feet, and remain clear of any class B, C, or D airspace in the absence of additional endorsements (part 61.325). This basically means you have to avoid controlled airspace, i.e. airspace in which a pilot is required to possess and demonstrate proficiency in the use of navigation and communications systems and radar services, and also in operations in controlled airspace and at controlled airports (airspace and facilities with approach controllers and tower controllers).
There is precious little "uncontrolled airspace" in the southern California area, that is the Los Angeles basin. There is some, but where I live one would be ill-advised to simply jump in his Transition, zoom down the driveway, and fly his way to work. You might not get a chance to meet the USAF up close and personal as they scramble to find out who you are, but you can bet the FAA hack would be waiting for you at your house when you got home ...
Mike, with your proximity to all those Air Force and Navy installations out where you live, I'd think this would not be the toy for you and Chris to buy each other for Christmas this year.
On the other paw, like Tigermark said, it'd be the neat toy to have if you lived somewhere under wide open skies with roadways or runways to match. It'd be a great way for furs like Alex or Joe to fly to work! <thinks> Well, maybe not Joe. The airspace around Denver isn't that much more open than the airspace here in Los Angeles ...
Still, at $194,000, that's not much aircraft for the money. If you had the ratings you could buy a pretty good (if well-used) single-engine general aviation aircraft that could carry four furs (LSA pilots may only carry one passenger at a time, most LSA only have two seats) and come equipped with other cool things such as equipment that allows flight at night or in instrument conditions, constant speed props, retractable gear, blah-blah-blah. Around here a reasonably equipped 4-place, 200 HP, retractable gear Cessna or Piper can be had for under 200 grand if you don't mind the high time on the airframe and engine.
So ...
Interesting. Yeah, shiny. But ... no thanks.

Where'd I see that ad for the Navion Rangemaster with the turboprop in it?

Besides, if you're going to buy a LSA-type aircraft, wouldn't the Equator P-2 Excursion be a better choice?

Awww ... thanks Mike. That's way better than those "first they say it, then they do it" type posts.
Actually, I was quite the constructor of model aircraft when I was a pup. I even helped my father and his buddy build a sailplane, in a garage in Whittier that quickly gave up it's automobiles and almost everything else. It did fly, but was destroyed in a freak hurricane at Hemet Ryan airport not too long after it's certification by the FAA.
I wish I had the cash flow and time to build things like that now. I'd be building something in my hangar, one of those sexy-sleek kit planes that you can hang a PT-6A on the front of and go over 300 knots at 25,000 feet. That would be fun ...
Nice artwork. Wish I could draw like that ...

Figuratively or literally, that's probably a good reason to have the mirrors. They might also be useful in seeing which part it was that made that clunk as it was falling off or being ripped off the buggy.
OK ... I'll keep 'em. For now ...

I can't watch that, the connection keeps failing on the video. _________________ "Cogito, ergo es. I think, therefore you is." Ray D. Tutto (King of the Moon) to Baron Munschaussen |

It ran OK for me, but I'm on a fairly clean high speed, moderate bandwidth connection. Have you tried downloading it and then viewing it?

I clicked on the play button like all other videos. I didn't see a download option. I tried pausing to let it buffer first but that didn't seem to help much, what did play was choppy. _________________ "Cogito, ergo es. I think, therefore you is." Ray D.
