Got it at about a 1/2 hour ago...
Seen Maxx on AIM, and he tried to contact Whip. 1/2 hour later it was up again.
Error, while posting on the Mod's Lougne Forum/Thread.

On another forum I post on, I've gotten that before... I believe that usually occurs when the PHP script cannot connect to PF's MySQL database, for one reason or another. Just try re-posting it, and it should work, unless the MySQL database is down for maintenance or due to error, etc. |

In my case- PF was DEAD for a good 1/2 hour. No Back, No Reload, just kept getting that constant message.
I run with a 0-cache so the pages get refreshed everytime I load up, and hence, get no false of "yay. I'm on!" on a otherwise dead server.
But its a good thing it came back up; either Whip or Maxx rebooted it or it fixed itself.
I figured its a MySQL/phpBBS software issue, but its not my system or setup, and even if I was Mod'ing it, would not know where to begin other that pressing that big ole red [RESET] button. I would have to know the system inside and out before I dare to fudge with it. _________________ SHARKS In The Gene Pool South of Kosovo!

My apologies for the delay of my response to this issue.
The downtime the Planetfurry BBS experienced was due to a backup process being run on the system. Part of that process takes the MySQL server temporarily offline for a cold backup. Unfortunately it took a little longer than usual to run that process.
Just as a note, I was trying to get a good, recent backup of the system and all sites due to the condition the server is in. I'm not expecting the system to last much longer. The drive that's been causing problems has already died twice this week, but I was able to bring it back up for the time being. I'm still working on building a new server, but since I am limited by the amount of available hardware it is taking a little bit of time. |

Nahima and I don't currently have any extra money in our pockets, but as soon as we do, we'll let you know. |

So, I got this message Sat night (mabye 1:30amPST):
phpBB : Critical Error
Could not connect to the database
Does this just usually mean backups or other repair is happening? Also immediately before this message showed up, page access was really slow.
BTW, thanks for doing all that you do to keep PF up. I can't imagine it is easy or inexpensive. _________________ =-LurcH-= |

MySQL (the database server behind the BBS, as well as several other services, crashed during a full backup early this morning around 4:30am EST. I was not able to bring it back up until around noon EST today. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

You're welcome, and thank you. Unfortunately I am under a perscribed sleep aid that absolutely knocks me out. My pager and cell phone (which both receive alerts concerning problems like this) were going off while I was out cold. The auto-restart scripts weren't able to get the service back up because of a currently unknown issue. If the scripts were able to restart the service, it wouldn't have stayed down for this long. |

I just shrugged and moved off to something else for a while.
I know whatever happens Whip will have things back up ASAP |
