At About 2:22 today (4/29), I was posting on the KWKAT Public Forum about problems of the streaming server, and that I pm'd Fish to check up on it. Pressing send gave me this strange error:
General Error
Could not connect to smtp host : 0 :
DEBUG MODE
Line : 111
File : /home/virtual/site1/fst/var/www/html/forums/includes/smtp.php
I waited for a while ( a couple of minutes- spent on high-liting the error code and saving it elsewhere ), then press refresh. The BBS took a long time to process it ("planetfurry.com contacted, awaiting reply"), but it eventually processed and posted my reply onthe thread. I say in all, it took slightly longer than 5 minutes. _________________ SHARKS In The Gene Pool South of Kosovo!

It looks to me like a mail problem. did you check the "Notify me when a reply is posted" option? phpBB tends to have some problems with mail often. |

Luxo; from running my own server, I know exactly what it mean. But Whip needs to know the exact error codes that comes up so he can narrow down the problem with the server, and do a clean job as possible to fix it. Hence, I cut and paste what is generated for him to see. Maybe others have seen this as well?
Personally, when I get my server running in June again (I hope!), it still wont run a BBS Forum. I've been thinking of doing such, but seeing the headaches, and the need of staff to help manage it, PlanetFurry is lucky to have a group like us put into the BBS to make it run as smooth as possible. Its a major undertaking, but so is marriage, and in both, you get what you put in.
Sorry, if I sounded a bit harsh.

I'm looking through the error logs and don't see anything that looks out of the ordinary. More than likely the SMTP server was excessively busy at the time you were trying to trying to submit your message.
Since phpBB tries to immediately send notification messages to anyone "subcribed" to that topic, the SMTP server must be fully available when it attempts to send those messages. I'll look around to see if there is any way to have some kind of internal message queue or something similar to prevent errors like this. |

That's not entirely accurate. It's not always phpBB that's having the problem. With this situation it's more than likely the SMTP server. |

Oh, sorry. I'm not exactly an expert on computer systems, but I noticed that many phpBB boards tend to throw that error. Now I stand corrected. =) |
