Got a relatively new one. So soothing and yet so sad...
White Flag by Dido
I know you think that I shouldn't still love you
I'll tell you that
But if I didn't say it
Well, I'd still have felt it
Where's the sense in that?
I promise I'm not trying to make your life harder
Or return to where we were
Well I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
I know I left too much mess
And destruction to come back again
And I caused but nothing but trouble
I understand if you can't talk to me again
And if you live by the rules of "It's over"
Then I'm sure that that makes sense
Well I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
And when we meet
As I'm sure we will
All that was then
Will be there still
I'll let it pass
And hold my tongue
And you will think
That I've moved on
Well I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
Well I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be _________________ Doctor Kayngi

Ooooooh! Now you've started something I'm good at... songs that make me depressed.
Here is my favorite of these. A-ha with "Crying In The Rain"
Crying In the Rain
(Howard Greenfield/Carole King)
I'll never let you see
The way my broken heart is hurting me
I've got my pride and I know how to hide
All my sorrow and pain
I'll do my crying in the rain
If I wait for stormy skies
You won't know the rain from the tears in my eyes
You'll never know that I still love you so
Though the heartaches remain
I'll do my crying in the rain
Raindrops falling from heaven
Could never take away my misery
But since we're not together
I pray for stormy weather
To hide these tears I hope you'll never see
Someday when my crying's done
I'm gonna wear a smile and walk in the sun
I may be a fool
But till then, darling, you'll never see me complain
I'll do my crying in the rain
I'll do my crying in the rain
I'll do my crying in the rain
I'll do my crying in the rain _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Isn't that the same song that was a hit for The Everly Brothers in 1962? _________________ mwalimu

Ran a websearch... Yes, it is the same song. I wasn't even aware that A-ha had recorded a version of it; the only songs by them I was familiar with are Take On Me and Touch Me _________________ mwalimu

Indeed. I tracked down a copy of The Everly Brothers' version and it's the same song.
However, I do like A-ha's version much better. It's much more powerful thanks to the use of deep piano tunes but still so very saddening at the same time. _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Since I haven't heard A-ha's version I can't comment on the comparison, but I've had a similar experience with another song - Rhythm of the Rain, originally charted by the Cascades. As oldies go, it was never one of my favorites. Okay, but nothing to get excited about, nothing I'd go out of my way for. Then Dan Fogelberg did a cover version of the song, and I liked his version of it much better than the original. His version sounded richer, with more feeling, than the original.
RHYTHM OF THE RAIN
(John Gummoe)
Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain
telling me just what a fool I’ve been
I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain
and let me be alone again
The only girl I care about has gone away
looking for a brand new start
but little does she know that when she left that day
along with her she took my heart
Rain, please, tell me now, does that seem fair
for her to steal my heart away when she don’t care
I can’t love another when my heart’s somewhere far away
The only girl I care about has gone away
looking for a brand new start
but little does she know that when she left that day
along with her she took my heart
Falling rain
Cry in vain
But, rain, won’t you tell her that I love her so
Please, ask the sun to set her heart aglow
Rain in her heart, and let the love we knew start to grow
Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain
telling me just what a fool I’ve been
I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain
and let me be alone again
Falling rain
Falling rain
Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain
Falling rain
Listen to the rhythm of the
Listen to the rhythm of the
Cry in vain
Listen to the rhythm of the
The only girl I care about has gone away
looking for a brand new start
but little does she know that when she left that day
along with her she took my heart _________________ mwalimu

Wee! Just found out that "Sing For The Moment" by Eminem is a cover. Okay, that by itself is not that big a surprise. However, the original is an Aerosmith song! And it fits into this category.
"Dream On" by Aerosmith
Every time that I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face gettin' clearer
Fffffff... the past has gone
It went by like dusk to dawn
Isn't that the way
Everybody's got their dues in life to pay
Yeah... I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know... how to win
Half my life's in books written pages
Live and learn from fools and from sages
You know it's true
All the things come back to you
Sing with me sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing it with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away
Well... sing with me sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing it with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away... ahh
Dream on... dream on... dream on
Dream yourself a dream come true
Dream on... dream on... dream on
And dream until your dream comes true
Dream on... dream on... dream on... dream on
Dream on... dream on... dream on... aaahhh...
Sing with me sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing it with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow good Lord will take you away
Sing with me sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing it with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away _________________ Tygon Panthera - name and species

Myself... I like James Taylor's version of crying in the rain. Simon and Garfunkle also did a good version of it. Anyways, its a favorite song of mine as well... I also like alot of Jackson Browne's work. Mostly... this one:
Jackson Browne - I'm Alive
I want to live in the world, not inside my head
I want to live in the world, I want to stand and be counted
With the hopeful and the willing
With the open and the strong
With the voices in the darkness
Fashioning daylight out of song
And the millions of lovers
Alive in the world
I want to live in the world, not behind some wall
I want to live in the world, where I will hear if another voice should
call
To the prisoner inside me
To the captive of my doubt
Who among his fantasies harbors the dream of breaking out
And taking his chances
Alive in the world
To open my eyes and wake up alive in the world
To open my eyes and fully arrive in the world
With its beauty and its cruelty
With its heartbreak and its joy
With it constantly giving birth to life and to forces that destroy
And the infinite power of change
Alive in the world
To open my eyes and wake up alive in the world
To open my eyes and fully arrive in the world
To open my eyes and wake up alive in the world
To open my eyes and fully arrive in the world
Anyway, thats my all-time favorite... Just my 2-cents.

Being a complete and total Pink Floyd fan, I'd be hard pressed not to post something from them.
High Hopes - Pink Floyd: The Division Bell
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before times took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
When friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
