I'm going to start recommending books, each month, I've found especially good.

For October, I'd like to recommend Digital Knight by Ryk Spoor (Baen Books, $7.99 US). A first novel, it drew me right in and is engrossing reading. You have a cogent and consistent treatment of vampires, werewolves, et al. in a modern setting. More to the point, you have a hero who wins as much by brains as by brawn.

Cheers,
Cateagle

It's a late book from October, but I heartily recommend Far Side of the Stars by David Drake (Baen Books, $25.00 US). It's the third of his "Leary & Mundy" series and a good read in it's own right. This is the initial hardback release and, while pricey, comes with some excellent value for the money in the form of Baen Books third CD containing in unencrypted, multiple-format e-book form all the material David Drake has written for Baen (either by himself or with a co-writer), the first novel of his "Isles" series from Tor, cover art work, and, here's the real goody, Manly Wade Wellman's "John The Balladeer" stories. These last are more or less contemporary Appliachian fantasy and are works I've thoroughly enjoyed for years.

Cheers,
Cateagle
