I've got this problem that whenever I submitted a post or viewed a thread and returned to the index page, all of the "new posts" that I haven't read became "no new post" if you get what I mean.

So far it's only happened a few times. Does anyone have a similar problem, and is there a fix?

Hutch

I get this all the time but it only happens to me if I refresh or reopen the site directly after posting.

Same. I have to stay on PF and not navigate away from in on the browser I'm on. Also, make sure your internet settings are set so it checks for new versions of a page "automatically".

From all the networking courses I've taken, I don't think that is possible.

That is, if you have a steady internet connection. If your IP changes, your internet connection will go down temporarily (we are talking 15 seconds roughly...)

not necesarily

it is possible, and it can be cached to take effect the next time you refresh your screen.

Some ISP's have taken to dumping your IP if you are on a LONG time. My buddy works for Comcast and says that they do it quite often

Apparently their DHCP is set at a very fast release rate.

I could be wrong however, and sometimes, I may even say so.

hmm... Well especially with older operating systems, I don't understand how they would cope with that. I've never seen it happen. It seems like it would get incredibly confused.

Not to mention, as far as my knowledge goes, with Windows 9x machines, the connection has to be dropped for an IP address change (considering if you are on a LAN, you have to reboot your PC if you change your static IP address. And if you have a dynamic IP address, you still have to tell the OS to update it... and in the time it is updating connection is lost.) Am I right? Or completely off?

Some ISPs disconnect you after you are online for a certain time (often 24 hours, but may be less). After you reconnect, you get a different IP address.

This may affect not only modem users, but also ADSL, ...
