Furs and Femmes:

Recently, I saw how our community can pull together to help others. I was amazed at the generosity and warm feelings that I received from each and every person that donated or purchased an auction item. Truly it was awe inspiring.

With the prevalence of bad things that seem to have happened recently, I would like to introduce an idea to you all.

Project Angelfish (Thanks to IR for the name.)

What I propose is a fund for furs that need assistance.

I'd love to see this grow and be able to provide whatever is needed for a fur in need.

Does this sound like something you would support or contribute to?

The poll will remain open for 7 days.

Thank you for your time!

You guys helped us a lot at MFM, and more recently helped us figure out a way to move to our new home. Of course, we're still working on some of that, but regardless. Wink

The nice thing is, our new home will be a HOUSE for, like, six months - and gives us time to get our debts paid and actually start making money. When we're in a position to do so, you'd better believe we'll donate back. Smile

Oh hell yeah I'd contribute you could set up a bank and Pay Pal account that way it would be easy for furs to donate. This is a great idea Fish.

I'm not really in the financial state to donate money, but if I could I would.

I know what it's like to be in one of those places. I just hope no one takes advantage of it.

I would but I can't at the moment.

I know that's an easy thing to say, but it is that way. The con and vacation have burned me out financially and I can't affoard anything at the moment. Give me till October, or better November. I'll be employed by that time again and we can talk.

Sorry.

NOW WAIT A MINUTE!!!

'OK, I'll put away the giant pin, but at the same time, I can see that this bubble is going to burst...

One of the many things one has to look at is how this is to be done. As a Non-Profit/Not For Profit Organization is one of the easiest ways of doing it in the long term. But setting it up is another matter, espcially since those who would want to started are separated by miles of land and sea and across state/national borders.

Either way, I say yes to this, depsite some of the headaches this may inccur in the begining.

Headaches? Why?
At best, as a N/P organization, this would be a 501c(7) and a 507c(??) chapter organiztion: A "Fraternal Order."

Experience that I have with the ShortFellow Foundation is that if there is something missing in the checks and balances, the group may want to take everything that is not nailed down. We "Shortfellows" created this fund for "such emergencies" back in June '81. Lots of hard investing of time and money and about 15 years later- it became a multi-million dollar operation. Then I had a few personal and family emergencies from which I had to leave the country without notice (a death in the family- and I had to take care of family business at that point).

While I was gone, I could not be reached and thanks to some idiot, a rumor spread of my own demise. As President of the SF.F. it is my obligation and responsibility to make sure that things go well. In my absent- everything went wrong. And Members tried to go after the "gold"- sorta speak.

Upon my return, Hell broke loose. Literally. I was not going to have the IRS and other government agencies (one of which I used to work for!) come down on my read end and tried to explain how multi-millions of dollars disappeared from the organizations bank accounts.

To say the least- I was quite angered at the preceding Board Member Meeting, which included an invited group from the FBI, IRS and other well known law enforcement agancies.

Time pasted and things eventually straigtened themselves out, included the arrest of former members. But I was able to reclaim most of the losses. Good thing too, considering that the fund had to go through its internal steps of taking care of one of its own when one of us had to under go the death of his wife this past summer, and with 4 children, he is in no condiction to continue working to support he family.

We did what we were created to do; in his case, he recieved a check from us for $900K USD for the first installment and another $120K for each year for the next 20 years- with taxes taken cared off by our accountants. The details are is in one of my forums threads. But at least, we did what we had to do. For him, he no longer has to work for a long time and he can concentrate on his family for many years to come.

There are others who are benefiting from all this- though I refused my share upon the death of my wife back in 12/83- at least her son is getting something. A few of us that had not survived to see today- their families are being supported as well. Smaller emergencies are also delt with in this fund, as well as the future of our children with the ShortFellow Scholarship Fund. But sorry guys- its a private- members only fund.

Like I said- its a major headache, one that I would not mind having again if it means helping out others. The question is how?

The 501c(7)/507 chapter for N/P's, like I said are hard to put together, but easy to manage in the long run.

No matter which way it is eventually figured out in the end, count me in as being there- no matter what my financial condition is in. Any Questions?

What does 507c(7)/507c mean? Mr. Green

I'd love to help out btw, but I'd also like to know what is meant by 'in need' also. Would this be a serious charity, or just something to help fund somefur's con trip?

*nods* I think more information on what the money will be going to needs to be thought up, etc, etc. It sounds like a good deal to me and after hearing Elfen's explanation, it sounds like a rough job to tackle.

Ah well, when more information on how this money is going to be spent and how much we are trying to earn here, gets out we can make better... theories.
